Upcoming Linux Channel Vids - Want Input

Just a suggestion - A series involving the Raspberry Pi would be excellent. If there’s one thing that forces you to learn how to use Linux, it’s setting up a remote webcam server on a Raspberry Pi. It’s something I’m doing for a co-worker at work and so far it’s teaching me basic bash scripting, SSH and navigating the filesystem in the terminal.

Stuff involving the GPIO on the RPi, learning how to remote into a machine with SSH, etc would make great Linux topics for videos.

is this a actual thread where we can suggest stuff since it was made in 2015?

Yes. Some things. Distractions. Attempting to reassemble the Linux train and get it back on the rails.

This summer new on Syfy “Nerd after the apocalypse” (working title)

rather “This summer new on github: open source BIOS for Qualcomm ARM devices” if it were up to me, but I like the idea!

I would love to see an in depth video about “expect” scripting. I’ve found it to be an insanely powerful automation and sys admin tool.

I think having a video in which you try to lower the frame time in linux games would be really cool.

Linux as you probably know usually has an extra bit of lag in games compared to windows. So it would be kind of cool to use your testing gear to show any improvements by using a low latency kernel, and or disabling compositing.

Maybe also show the difference between opensource and closed source drivers.

I game So little in native Linux because I know what’s coming lol the doom vulkan stuff is mind blowingly awesome tho

In addition to doom, some people have made some DX11 games work somewhat in wine.

Both overwatch and GTA 3 are barely working in wine and development seems to be moving at light speed.

Obviously the more vulkan support wine gets, the more DX11 and potentially DX12 games we will see.

Could you interview the maintainers of the mesa stack, then? I would like to know more about all that works, and possibly how to further OpenCL support in my free time.

I think that a couple of good linux video´s would be;

  • Wine / Pol and how to configure that kind of stuff properly.

  • Graphics driver installation, which is still a pain in the ass on manny distro´s,
and the difrences between open and closed source drivers.
Maybe targeting AMD drivers in particular.

  • Gaming on Linux: Maybe a L1 style monthly video about interesting games that have natively linux support.
And maybe cover some of the games that run well in wine or pol.

  • Linux tips, tricks and tweaks show: Maybe 2 times a month?.

  • Distro review: about a distro that you personally like the most.

Ive a suggestion that I’ve been thinking about lately. Ive starting to look at other distros, it feels like it’s time for me to make the switch from LM18 to idk something else..

My request/suggestion is that you guys devote a video for recompiling programs!
Why you need to/when you need to? What the he’ll is this?
Is this a bad or good thing(I guess it’s a good thing.. But also, is this one of the major things holding Linux back on the desktop market)

This would help me alot moving forward in the Linux universe and it would be nice to have a great and complete video about this topic to turn back to from time to time.

Best regards!

Forum members flocked to Fedora because you spoke highly of it and used it.

Do a Gentoo install video to bring people to the true master race!

People will learn how to compile programs, which is something the guy above me wants to know. People will also get a chance to better understand their system and the options that they have available to them in Linux. Like they could have a systemd-less system, or a qt-less system. The list could go on and on.

With the ability to compile the whole OS and software to your system the system will be more responsive. Not everyone has a lot of money for a new build or a newer build then what they have now. You could help a lot of people save money by teaching them Gentoo.

A video explaining/use case for systemd n-spawn or some selinux policies

Luke from LTT mentioned wanting to ditch Windows completely in the latest WAN show (March17). He was talking about how gaming was the only thing holding him back & how he was trying to find ways around that issue.

Maybe a bit of collaboration on making it a more pleasant experience.

Really? I’ll have to stop by LTT and have a look-see for myself. But if so (and yes I do believe you  it could be an interesting collaboration.

Slick from LTT just said on the WAN show that he wants to create a linux gaming / on-network streaming solution, utilizing unraid, or VMs, or whatever. But the main condition is that WIN10 is caged machine that facilitates Linux as the main OS.

Is there a partner video opportunity there?

Timestamped link and about 2min in. So, what do you think, is the functionality he’s talking about even plausible? I don’t have the knowledge to assess this.

Maybe if one’s goal is to advance the adoption of linux/having more poeple try it out - helping Slick to have as painless an experience as possible, may be a quite potent way to do so, with the large audience he and they draw.
