Unraid - How to install fio (ZFS Guide instructions are outdated)

I used to use the instructions to install fio that are listed in the ZFS build guide. But that link doesn’t exist anymore and I can’t get it to work using those instructions.
Does anyone have updated instructions and know what version of fio works with Unraid 6.11.5 ?

Thanks!

Sam

@wendell Perhaps an updated guide and/or video?

The moment you need to work around package managment you’re doing it wrong and/or using the wrong tool for the job.

I’m always open to alternatives.

Why not just run a plain distro instead, FreeBSD 13.2 or something Linux-based with decent ZFS-support?

I have thought about rolling just a clean linux install. But I really like how Unraid does the array and pools. And it’s ez to add another disk to my array and grow it. Great for low speed things like videos & backups.
Their UI has also worked well for me, albeit I have outgrown it for Docker, I still use it a lot as a dashboard & to manage my drives.

You can easily add fio to Unraid, you can create a VM of slackware 15, then just compile the package yourself using SlackBuilds:

I just compiled it and uploaded it here:

You can place the tgz file in /boot/extra/ and it will get automatically installed at every boot.

It’s now part of nerdtools and has been working fine for some time now.
