Possibly the wrong category, please move me if so.
Anyway, this is what I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA10V2GV5046 Now, it might just be a case of this thing failing to work after a time like so many reviews are saying as well, but... this card reader will not recognize my micro SD card. Not anymore that is. Still reads a regular USB drive though.
Anyway, I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on getting this piece of crap to work again OR if you know of a universal card reader that is good and DOESN'T cost a fortune... lemme know.
If you can live with an external one, I have 2 of these. So far it's the only Kingston product that I own that hasn't failed on me and actually works really well.
The problem I see with that one is that it runs on off the USB 3.0 mobo plug, which is already in use. What I really need is a card reader like the one I liked that runs off of a 10 pin USB header.
That's an external card reader, it's USB3 but it sits on your desk. You can get also get internal USB3 to USB2 header adapters on ebay for mighty cheap if you get another internal one. Stick to brands you've heard of, cheap card readers be cheap.
Herm, no SD card option. Well, I suppose using an adapter would work. But really, what I need is something that can read micro SD and the larder kinds, like those used in cameras. Beyond that, I don't actually need any other formats.
Yes, i've got about three actually. But for simplicity's sake I mentioned it. I think what I'll do is grab that Rosewill one. Assuming it's not going to randomly die on me like my current one did, it'll do just fine. All I really need is SD and micro SD, so using an adapter will be fine.
I just find it weird that there's sooo many different models of these cheap card readers and then I occasionally find some high quality ones for $30-100.
