Unable to wake mac laptop with keyboard or trackball via KVM

KVM Model:

1.4 Display Port KVM Switch - Dual Monitor - Two Computer

USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):

10-gigabit

Problem:

I have two mac laptops hooked up to my KVM, an M4 macbook pro (work) and M2 macbook air (personal). My ergodox keyboard and kensington wireless trackball are hooked up to the HID ports.

My problem is that when the macbook pro sleeps, it will not recognize that the keyboard or trackball is connected until I unplug and re-plug the KVM. I cannot use the keyboard or trackball to wake the computer, and if I wake it manually with the built-in keyboard, it still doesn’t register the connected keyboard or trackball. When the keyboard and trackball are plugged directly into the computer they are able to wake it. The macbook air also wakes without issue using the KVM-connected keyboard and trackball.

Have you tried:

Battery > Options > Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off

?

some Mac users have also reported the OG Mac power adapter makes a difference in the max obeying the sleep wake setting or not, which is wild. try it with an og Mac power adapter also attached.

Thanks both, I will give these a try and report back!

Can confirm that I need the original mac power adapter. Or at least, it works when I use it, and does not work when I’m powered through my dock. Thank you for the tip!

good to know thank you!
