Unable to power up VM, specified virtual disk needs repair or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

VMware Workstation 17 Pro
Virtual Machine = Windows 10 Pro
Virtual machine had a snapshot
virtual machine was running at the time I lost power

The specified virtual disk needs repair

Cannot open the disk ‘C:\path\to\VM-Folder\VMname-0-000002.vmdk’ or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Module ‘Disk’ power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine."
</Exact Specific Error Message>

Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Is that vmdk still at the correct file location?
Did you run sfc, dism, and chkdsk since the outage?

That won’t clear the unclean image flag in the vmdk file, and I do not recommend manually clearing if you are running snapshots unless one is corrupt and you absolutely have to and cannot afford data loss.

C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware-vdiskmanager -R “‘C:\path\to\VM-Folder\VMname-0-000002.vmdk”

should get you back up and running.

ACES TryTwiceMedia! :slight_smile: thank you I am back
