Hallo!
What do you think about this devboard https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/udoo/udoo-x86-the-most-powerful-maker-board-ever/description it is x86 with intel cpu and arduino compatible?
Anyone already had experince with one of the creators previous kampagnes?
I am tempted to back it.. but as usual kickstarter stays a risk.
What would you even do with something like this that you couldnt do with either an arduino or a computer?
what no banana for comparison? Im not so sure about this group now

I am intrigued by the very very small form factor and the fact its pretty powerful and x86.
Tbh, I have no idea what to do with it yet ... but I haven't had any when my first RPi arrived back in the days ;)
Maybe some sort of CNC or 3D printer or something like that?
That could be amazing indeed - though I once calculated through the bill of materials for a 3D printer I would have wanted and it was actually more expensive than similar off the shelve.
I decided to play the waiting game until the off the shelves get even cheaper.
Up to this point I did mostly software and minor control and sensor stuff with my pis. Most of them run as servers XD
yeah i think CNCs are more cost effective to build yourself as the 3D printer stuff is hard to source. Plus the bigger the most cost effective.
But the kick starter looks damn good.

Back in school I built a 2 axis cnc for drilling holes into PCBs and it worked a charm until the belts I sourced back than got worn out - as it was a school project I sadly could not keep it and thus was not motivated to fix it either XS
I think CNCs are more useful anyway. 3D printers are great in concept but they just dont work very well. Plus the material is crap and isnt super useful.

They are italian, so +1 from me. :D

Sure it is. With an Arduino you can make a LCD to show up system information for example so yeah, they can talk to each other. Anyway don't trust me 100% and do your own researches just to be sure.
That board is a monster and I think you could run a pretty badass swiss knife home server off of it without any iccup. Some secure home automation or advanced robotics are interesting fields to experiment in with something like that (real time space reading and machine learning). If you have some spare money that you can lock in that campaign and you already know what to experiment with that board I would pick it up for sure. But if you're just courious to have it and maybe use it for a month and than put it aside it's a waste of money (duh).
