I managed to follow a guide on NixCraft’s blog to set up dropbear-initramfs a while ago to remotely unlock my encrypted system disk at boot. I’ve heard that 26.04 will drop official support for initramfs-tools in favor of dracut starting in 25.10, and that initramfs-tools will be demoted to community support in the universe repo with 26.04.
I originally installed 25.04, but upgraded to 25.10. Everything still works with the remote unlocking. Will the upgrade to 26.04 reconfigure my system to use dracut instead of initramfs-tools, and break my dropbear install? Or will the upgrade just leave the current initramfs-tools configuration as is? (My hope.)
I’ve only been on Linux for about a year, so I’m still learning how upgrades work. Thank you for any help.
