I have tried multiple trackballs even with a powered USB hub in the middle and i cannot get any machine (mac and pc) to recognize them when trying a variety of configurations with the cabling etc. It seems when i hook a regular mouse into the device even without a USB powered hub things work as expected. Everything else seems to work great
The two trackballs are i have are a Nuela M505 and an Elecom Drift Pro
A USB hub goin to my monitor which has a USB-C upstream to the KVM port USB-A , and on that USB hub it did not work with the trackball
I have tried plugging in the trackball to a variety of the ports , however, I don’t recall if I rebooted the KVM in those specific instances, though I do recall re-booting at least once with the trackball plugged in. I will try that soon
Is there anything else that could be the issue? Trackballs aren’t really any different than regular mice last I checked, some of the other posts in the forum and from some colleagues suggested the powered USB hub in the event something is drawing more than 1A power.
uisb3 type A or usb hid type A? hid ports don’t support hubs. A lot of the time monitor hubs don’t expect to be plugged into a hub, so either of these things could create a lot of weird situations. I’d recommend rebooting the kvm (unplug power and usb for a minute) as I’m sure i.e. logitech stuff works fine, including the trackball, since I use one of those. Your trackballs almost certainly will work fine with the usb3 ports on a fresh kvm boot. And if they don’t it is probably something not related to the kvm about your setup… a direct connection to the computers with the trackball in a usb3 port is unlikely to be trouble (but you may have to “start fresh” on a clean boot of the kvm for complicated usb protocol reasons, starting with a blue usb3 port on the kvm not one of the hid ports).
Ofc the hid ports may also be fine, just one variable at a time for troubleshooting.
I would be quite surprised if your trackballs need anywhere near 1a of power.
So it seems when hooking both trackballs in directly via USB they exhibit the same non working behavior. I did just try the Nuela M505 as a bluetooth trackball and it worked great, it’s odd as I have this and the elecom set to be USB and hooked up directly and they don’t seem to work
I just plugged a wired trackball I got into the KVM without issue as expected, I suppose the wireless trackballs I do have only work wirelessly and not when hooked up via USB
