Toshiba L850 laptop, Disc drive not working

The disc drive on my Toshiba Satellite L850 isn’t working.
It doesn’t recognise DVD’s or Blu-ray discs at all and while it recognises CD’s when I try to play them there is no audio. I thought initially it was a software problem with Linux but since I first tried it on Linux I’ve had to install windows on it and tested it on Windows 10 as well.
So it’s probably something wrong with the disc drive itself. I’ll probably have to replace it but I’d prefer to not have to do that.

Has it ever worked with DVD and blurays ?

You know what my internet is like. Physical media is way better for me. Plus I just like it.

It's worked with DVD's before. Never used a Blu-ray but according to both the Laptop specs and the specs of the disc drive itself it can play Blu-ray discs.

Have you tried to uninstall the driver for the disc drive?

If that does not work i would recommend something like this to remove build up dust on the lens.

Uninstalling the drivers and cleaning both didn't work. Any other ideas?
