The Witcher 3 has downgraded graphics

You can say that, just as you say there is no downgrade, but there was a video posted on here where they admit there are differences but explains that what we were seeing before 2014 was just post processed trailer footage, and not actual gameplay. Therefore the game is not 'downgraded'.

And no you cant, because there are differences, as they studio admitted, as the screen shots show.

the main dev ~ proper source told us that there is no downgrade, and on proper spec pc you will be able to gain quality shown in trailers from 2013-14.

I'm disagreeing, with you. (and providing actual proof from ss in-game as i play.) lack of smoke from chimneys? There's a lot of it.

and as argument i will say i was playing demo at e3 from 2014.

I agree that the foliage is probably the biggest let down graphically. It just looks doesn't match up to the quality of the character models or the shadow quality. Hopefully that is one of the first things modders go after.

the way i see it, is weather and resolution they've render those.

by playing a little within config files and downscaling 4k resolution, i'm getting this.
(from config files there's more graphic options including uber sampling that gives off similar texture appearance we had on objects...)

(don't use msaa, seems broken)

For me the downgrade can take a backseat. Yes it is downgraded, if it is not one to one the same no matter which way you slice it they downgraded it, but the issue is Game works.

Why are any of us still even contemplating giving money to a company who clearly could give less of a fuck if you let them. They are actively downgrading the experience for not only AMD but their own cards. How are people not in full steam paid mod freakout mode right now?

After playing the game for a while, it really looks gorgeous. Granted, if there is a downgrade, it does not affect me. I have a GTX 770, which starts to have issues once you enable Hairworks and maxing everything out. So I am playing with a mix of high and ultra settings, a medium setting or two in there. Looks gorgeous, been pretty stable, and to me by no means looks 'downgraded'. For sure one of the most beautiful games I have played.

The downgrade was for everyone universally. And the fact that you cannot run hairworks, an nVidia own tech on an nVidia card, does not smack of anything wrong?

Having paid a premium to get a faster card with.more features and then having to disable the very features YOU PAID FOR and this okay?

What the hell has happened to games and gamers.

i don't see the downgrade. (i will state it again, I played demo at e3 in 2014, and this looks better than what we've seen before)
I've already edited draw range in my configs and i'm able to see mountains. (but its taxing frame rate... so i keep it at mild range -- still its highly depended on weather)

Some people pointed that terrain, foliage, rocks, trees lack shadows or have lower textures.
(most can be fixed by cranking up resolution fairly high) but other are there - simply enabling uber sampling from config file, and enabling higher texture (default is at 1500, i run at 3096) and things start to look very similar as they look on screenshots from trailers. (still its heavy on randomization of grass, stones, and tree's themselves) Weather, and time of the day itself changes whole experience.

(7h)
So far I have experienced:
- Storms (Lighting, cool effects just like in demo if not better - as clouds cast shadows, and its easy to spot during the day)
- Winter's like (day&night , while during warm day there's plenty of mists like i've attached on ss above somewhere, during the night everything is kinda frozenish horse, gerald breath is visible and all nice small things)
- Summer, Autumn (I've noticed that there are times of year in the game as you progress, the foliage changes, and looks more sharp, and orange)
- The spells weren't changed, actually they used fully upgraded versions of ignis which is why it was like flamethrower.

  • Fire during the rain doesn't produce as much of smoke, and doesn't feel as hot.
  • Explosions are visible on water, and they refract waves.

So far I've not been able to confirm the super fire smoke effect, but judging by smoke going out from chimneys its same but specific for that scene. (not castle stable burning as in ss comparing in which its heavily raining)

Zibob,
I'm running Hairworks and its just fine... and i have amd. The problem is most gpu's are too weak to render AA hairworks 8x as its set in config (\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\base\rendering.ini) but if your gpu/s are able to render it there's no problem at all. (like in my case)

Obviously you'll find steam version slower as there's drm slowing it down. Or your system specs settings are crappy.

example of rocks.

notice foliage is actually of good quality once you stand there for a while, and has proper high quality 3d skybox.

some smoke of pipe, completely interactive with objects... you can see it when he moves his hand. *but my fps drop at this scene to 30-40fps

trees actually are of amazing quality, I haven't seen any trees like that anywhere yet.

smoke blocks the sun...

Well you are wrong because the devs even admitted it, but how are you too see the difference by posting screenshots of the game? This isnt about how the game looks now, it is how the game looks now compared to before... And fyi those screenshots look worse than before, everything has DOF 'cinematic blur' and console haze not present on the game footage before downgrade...

Also has the console texture blur, where everything blurs together.... Its a trick they use to increase performance, guess nvdia works was not that great eh. Likely the nvidia game works impacted performance forcing them to change this filter.

First the dev never admitted it. They only said that they removed a sharpening filter and that there was no game to downgrade back then anyway. It was not ready. It was just a trailer showcasing the engine. Take their declaration as you will but they still claim there is no downgrade.

I just tried it and as much as you want shout about downgrade and bad optimization I actually think that already in High settings this game looks absolutely gorgeous.

I do not think I have even seen such visuals on any open world game before and it surpasses many non open games as well. Much more than I thought it would (even by the demos). If you are complaining about the visuals in this game then you are just complaining for the sake of complaining.

I actually managed to have playable FPS (around 30) on High setting with just a R9 270 that is not overclocked and a 8350 and 16BG of ram. Even hairworks seems fine although i am only keeping it on Gerald. I will probably wait for the new AMD driver and start to do some tweaking cause even though it is playable i would prefer it to be smoother. But it really looks they did a very good job, even though i need more time with the game to be absolutely sure.

Exactly, the earlier game-play footage and demos looked much better, they are not denying that, they even admitted this. There argument is that it is not a 'downgrade' because the game is not released and the footage they showed was not gameplay footage.

It doesnt matter, there point is irrelevant and incorrect, it exists, it happened, they addmitted it, what we call it, it doesn't matter!! It litterally doesn't matter, because what matters is it happened, the earlier gameplay footage did look better, despite them trying to argue it was only 'game trailers' and a 'filter' (like enb lol).

And it honestly doesn't matter how wonderfull you think the game looks, this is not what this thread is about, this thread is about what the game looks like now compared to what it looked like before in the earlier gameplay demos... It is just that some people cant comprehend this....

It looks as good or better than it was promised I believe...Compared to all PC gameplay videos i have seen. And that is not speculation any more. Its is what I saw on my screen....
What you are referring to was not a gameplay video. And it even looks as good in videos showcasing ultra gameplay.

You want to see a watchdogs case in every high profile release its your call. This is not a watchdogs case though. Not by a longshot.

No it doesn't, they even admitted it ffs. So saying it doesnt exist, is just you being a jackasse. Because it does exist, many others can see it not just me, including the DEVS. The are only arguing over WHAT TOO CALL IT, and what was and wasn't gameplay footage... Its a stupid argument, the screenshots I posted were clearly ingame. And there are many more, google is your friend!

And you are denying that such a thing even happend, that is seriously a WTF? Why would you even try? Did you even look at the comparison screenshots that I posted...

Now if you don't care that they deliberately portrayed a version of the game which doesn't exist (as some informant from CDP asserted quiet some time ago) in order to increase sales then that is fine, it is your opinion. And you can also think the game looks great. That is fine. I don't agree with it, particularly companies committing fraud by tricking people into thinking they are buying something that doesnt exist.

But feel free to agree with those business practices. But don't say the game looks just as good now, as it did before when there are screenshots a few posts ago and statements by the devs which prove you wrong...

What can I say...I tried the game in my system. I have seen all other videos and It does look as good to me.
Maybe I am blind but it does. And people that actually played the demos (not just seen the videos) say the same.
If you think an informant has more validity ok then.
This is my opinion though. It could be wrong but that is my take on this.

Just because you do not believe the statements of Devs and you conclude that they are lying, this alone just not prove anything objectively.
I do not feel I have been tricked and if the game plays as promised I feel that they delivered what they promised.
If that makes me stupid or naive then I guess I am.

Thank you so much for insulting me just to prove your point by equalizing the fact that I have a different opinion with the fact that I endorse fraud. Very classy. I do not endorse companies tricking consumers. I just do not see a fraud in this case.

Played this last night with dual 980's and latest Nvidia drivers and I'm actually getting stuttering in areas. Un-fucking-believable. This is on ultra settings for everything and while I agree that the game is quite gorgeous (sunsets are awesome) it is definitely got at least a case of consolitus. This game was not optimized well for PC. Cutscenes are even worse. The previous images and trailers definitely have significant differences. I am more than a little bit disappointed with CDPR for pulling a lesser version of the same crap we have to put up with from most AAA publishers. @Jacobite is right that they are playing word games by figuring out what to call a downgrade while not looking bad. Leaves the stench of politics in the air if you ask me. I'm going to try some manual optimization tweaks I've heard about online but we should not have to do this ourselves that is the devs job. My hope is that the redkit comes out soon so we can mod the crap out of this game and fix it ourselves.

Jacobite, turin231, I really doubt that either of you are going to convince the other. One of you sees a difference, the other doesn't. IT seems like the audience at large is divided like this. We will all just have to agree to disagree, I guess.

I expect that nexus mods is going to light up pretty soon with both GTA V mods and Witcher 3 mods. The modding community now has two new Skyrims to play with. Should be an interesting next few years. Kind of makes me want to wait to play through them until there are a bunch of mods out there. Then again, that would give me an excuse to replay them later on.........

The trees look different in the screenshots that you have posted than in the ones in the picture below. The ones below look terrible imo. I wonder why they differ so much. Perhaps different settings, perhaps different areas. Anyway, I have a request of you. Can you find a very heavily forested area which reminds you of the forest outside of Flotsam. I am interested in how they handle such intense foliage and lighting situations. Also, one of the biggest issues for me that I have seen in gameplay videos is the way that foliage moves in the wind. It looks so flat and listless. I will have to see if I can find a video which illustrates it well.

Just fixed the cutscenes by editing the visuals.ini file to make the cutscenes 60fps. Bastards had it set to 30fps. Plus if you set the mouse settings to hardware cursor on it makes the stuttering I had before reduce significantly. I think their mouse acceleration is really shitty and makes turning choppy and stuttery.

You do not have my permission to use my picture to push your twisted agenda.

The reason why the trees look different is that they are in fact, swaying dynamically, receiving illumination dynamically, casting shadows dynamically, and scaling dynamically depending on your distance from them. No two screenshots will ever look alike and the reason why things look different than the trailers is that the weather and lighting conditions are not the same. There are a lot of variables effecting how this game looks at any given moment.

You seriously need to accept that nit-picking every screenshot because it's not a photocopy of the original footage showing off the game under highly-controlled conditions is unreasonable. I'm getting sick of you postulating what is and isn't wrong with this game when all you have to go on is static screenshots and poorly compressed videos and I honestly don't want to hear your opinion until you've experienced the game yourself.
