The Ultimate Home Server - Component: Home Security

You might want to consider DietPi for that use case.

Sounds like a fun idea; and pretty low cost.

Before investing in the solar& battery and stuff, I’d try it indoors off wall power first, then run it outside off an extension cord… Then mess with batteries and such?

Any solutions for just motion detection? I feel like they’re more discrete than cameras.

I think I want to start a HomeAssistant App on my TrueNAS. What kind of ecosystem should I look into if I want to use this? MQTT or maybe zigbee?

Got any recommendations to integrate with home assistant?

@mutation666 are these meant to go with something like a Raspberry Pi 5’s M.2 slot?

They make ones that would work in them

mmWave presence sensors are now readily available. I’m putting together a smart home for the first time too and I considered the Sonoff one.

I decided for Zigbee over MQTT. Seems to be the solution most Zigbee devices support.

I found THIS website that lists devices and compatibility with different Zigbee communication types in Home Assistant.

They also work just as fine in A+E key slots on x86 machines. If I’m ever gonna do CV with a Coral TPU I’ll get a USB one to make my life easier.
