The Tek 0212: War on Christmas | Tek Syndicate

Yeah it's definitely made my all time favorites list.

Okay I'll hit it from a different angle. Mind you this is pure speculation, but what if there was a different bit of evidence, that is not yet public, and Kim knows he's going to get burned over it. We know Mega Upload was used primarily for a lot of illegal copyright uploads, and that he did pay people off who were getting infringement notices. IE He was aware of what his site has been used for.

We know users on 4chan heavily used the MU, If Kim and his conspirators were well aware of the traffic going through the site, and were getting flags, but did nothing to stop it. In that traffic. We know also there are a lot of messed up people using 4chan. Such as sharing child pornography using MU's service, I know this for a fact, because I remember seeing the shortened links that lead to MU, from usually posts on /b/. Any one who has been to /b/ after 12a US time, will know this.

Some of those people had premium accounts. If Kim was aware of such a thing and did nothing to stop it, facilitate even. What if he also has operated in the Dark Web doing that? That might be a hell of a lot more serious than copy right violations. Will you still defend Internet Hero, who again has admitted guilty to shit like this before?

Now to address your previous paragraph. You look at those anime companies as if they are all triple A, and operate the same as the gaming industry does. There for, because there are now less triple A companies, out there in the anime industry, this now means there will be better shows, because they come from independent animation studios.

This idea, couldn't be more wrong. The good anime that does come out, and has a lot of money behind it, tends to be a bit better usually. Whether it is coming from, the writing, animation, music, voices etc. There isn't an EA or Activation entity putting out anime that's empty and has nothing to offer. Even then, while working for these big studios, animators are paid shit at times.

When you pirate anything, those at the bottom level someone, some where loses money, or loses out on their job. You make it seem as if it is so easy to be just hired without hardly trying. Those who are entry level, don't exactly have all the options you do. Please keep that in mind, before assuming others' situations.

This is a very interesting argument.

The Swedish internet infrastructure got built for fast internet during the pirating craze (before it became illegal to share IP). Really, before Netflix the Swedish people had very little need of high speed internet for any other purpose than to torrent. Fast internet was promoted by the ISP:s, and the Swedish government. All of them could not have been unknowing of what most of the traffic used to be at that time.

This is also a tangent to the current debate on whether an ISP should be allowed to block a site if they know that the site is being used for illegal activities.

For general information, the most recent court decision in Sweden, which is being appealed by the big money, is that ISP:s blocking content is illegal.

My opinion is no, they should not be allowed to block it, and no, they should also not be forced or encouraged to police the contents. However, when expressly informed that the content is illegal by police or a court (not a lawyer, or IP-owners, because they are neither police, nor a court), then they of course must block the specific illegal content, or be taken down as accomplices. Still, an entire site should not need to be blocked, or removed from the internet, because part of it is illegal.

I don't think Kim is a hero. I personally think he is a destructive confrontational asshole who has chosen to take a shit on the important issues in favor of self-aggrandizement. But I am seriously bothered with the fact that he will not get a fair trial, and that he won't be tried for actual crimes committed (some of which you have mentioned yourself).

I actually agree with what you are saying about the anime companies. They are indeed most often the source of originality and fresh air that can not exist without them getting paid. This is the bad side of pirating.

I do pay for things I like. And I wish everyone would. 20 or 30 years ago, I used to have a look at a game, or an anime, or a movie, or something else at a friend's house, and then if I liked it, I'd go purchase it for myself. Maybe borrow it for a while before that. Often I would not purchase immediately, because I have always planned my money output. Then sometimes, I would take a risk. I would be the first guy to purchase something. And damn it, sometimes it sucked real bad, and, unable to return an open package, something I really, really liked would not get purchased instead. I remember it took me three years to finally purchase a legal original copy of Ghost in the Shell VHS. I distinctly remember purchasing 2 other B-Movies that sucked, but had great covers, instead of GitS that was available at the time. It took three years until it became available, and I had the money to buy it. The alternatives were, I would purchase it after having seen it ten times over three years, or I wouldn't purchase it at all. And if I hadn't watched it, I wouldn't have even known about it.

It has always felt to me like the most decent thing to do - to get to check the product out before purchase. And I do require a fully representative preview in order to purchase something. I think bad stuff in good packaging that you can not preview in any way is damaging to the quality products. Possibly (but debatably - and I would really like to see numbers on this) more so than pirating.

Point taken. I was going a bit too Ayn Rand at it without really thinking it through. There can be a thousand ways this can hurt people.

But I am curious about this - if the consumers of anime are not willing to like it enough to pay for it... Then they will end up not having it. Would they have paid for it if piracy did not exist?

I have a certain sum of leisure money I spend each month, purchasing IP. When that money is out, then it is out. I mean, if the people don't pay for it, isn't that because there is a limit to their leisure money? Perhaps they should redirect their leisure money? Perhaps they don't have any leisure money.

Yes, availability of pirated content may have people choose to redirect their leisure money towards paying for more risky and/or difficult titles. But isn't this an availability problem?

Can u guys make a video about how to use the averMedia HD with OBS and its features? dose Open Broadcaster allow u to use the Live Gamer HD as a hardware encoder through the PCI like Xsplit Dose Or do u need to have it set up as a Video Capture Device in OBS in which case your CPU still has to encode video from OBS pls let me know how this works.

Oh you are so cute: "Torrenting music and movies for free is illegal in my country."

I live in switzerland! "Ha ..... Ha!"
For those who did not know it in switzerland it is legal (sort of)
-> If you don't upload the content and share it with other people (my dad for example has to download it too, it would be illegal when he watches a movie I downloaded).

But I personally just stream movies and the music, I buy it after I tried it (as long it fits my budget).
