The Sounds of Skyrim: GameInformer Article

GI did a four-video series on the audio behind The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. They speak with audio director Mark Lampert (Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas) about ambient and spell sounds, Max von Sydow's voice work, dragon sound effects and to top it all off, he lets us hear a sample of how the theme song sounds with Skyrim's "viking choir" composed by the legendary Jeremy Soule (TES III-IV, Icewind Dale, KOTOR I and II, Guild Wars 2, Duke Nukem Forever, and many, many more).

Shaping up to be more and more epic. I believe Lampert will do a better job on the audio this time around than he did in Fallout 3 (not that it was all that bad) since he seems to be more enthusiastic about this project.

Awesome dude! Thanks.

Lampert is awesome, I'm sure he'll do a phenomenal job...as you said, he seems very enthusiastic about it. Can't wait for it to come out, hopefully it's gonna be as good as it looks to be.

Also, they have Alduin's Wall from the teaser trailer that tells the story of the previous Elder Scrolls games in full view, and you can pan, zoom into and click certain areas for detailed descriptions of what they mean. It appears there will be a mountain retreat that you'll have to climb 7,000 steps to get to. Awesome!

Its funny, as soon as he said "You still get the goosebumps on the back of your neck" I instantly got it.

TES music has always done that to me, there's always one song that just invigorates you so much.

Take "Wings of Kynareth" from Oblivion for example.

Hmmm, not to put a hamper on this, but how long have they been working on skyrim? did they start after Fallout 3? i recall them working on brink, that isnt even released yet, Not to be Rude, But bethesda Are lazy as hell, Look at how unstable Fallout 3 is compared to Oblivion, both on the gamebyro engine.

Bethesda needs time for a game, hearing them say they are making a new Engine for skyrim and the whole game in a year. worry's me greatly...

They have been working on TESV since before Fallout 3. As far as we know, they have started development right after TESIV.

The Elder Scrolls is Bethesda's baby. If there's something I'm sure of it's that they won't rush it or butcher it in any way shape or form.

Besides, doesn't the Lampert says in the video that they have had the main music for the game for something like 3 years?

But only recently have they announced they were using a whole new engine.

hmm.. i need more info on this.

And only recently have they announced TESV: Skyrim. This is news to us, but they've been working on this for years now. I'm not stressed, Bethesda will deliver.

More GI stuff... They're really cranking it out!

This is a article giving a little more info on Skyrim's new "Creation Engine", their use of the new version of Havok Behavior, Radiant AI and Radiant Story. Also includes a screenshot of one of the towns you'll be visiting.

^ I watched the Havok Behavior demonstration, and it looks great.

@SSYN Bethesda is only publishing, not developing, Brink.

FUUUUCK IM SO EXCITED

ps. the main theme with the choir made my nipple hair stand up

This is amazing. I'm ridiculously excited.

Also they used a picture of Technoviking as some of the inspiration for the theme song...that made me lol a little

For those who didn't see it yesterday:

The latest video is a time-lapse of a paint-over. Paint-overs are concept art that is drawn over an existing screenshot of the game, used as a reference later in development so the team can make last-minute aesthetic changes. The screenshot shown is one of how the game looked in 2009 and likely does not entirely represent the final product. Still, it looks damn good! Also there's a new track from Jeremy Soule playing in the background while you watch. So enjoy!

If you haven't picked up the latest issue of GI detailing Skyrim, then look no further! Badasspanda.com has some of the screens on their website. Now I do not endorse scanning in content from other magazines but if you're someone who cannot resist or are perhaps in Europe with no way of getting your hands on the new GI, here's a few painfully small screenshots of Skyrim.

Now if only we could get some content originating from sources other than GameInformer... Ridiculous amount of content!
