Tek Rumors 0019: Microsoft Backpedals: Windows Store PC Exclusives Coming to Steam | AMD RX 460 Benchmarks Leaked | Apple will Implement new Proprietary File System on OS X

As opposed to a gaming laptop? First off, if your looking for a laptop that’s too cheap, you shouldn’t be stupid and buy a GTX 1080 and everything bottlenecks it. I got the Ivy-Bridge laptop for $500 a couple years back, I could find a refurbished laptop with better specs and the right I/O for cheaper now. I have an R7 360 I got for $85 a while ago still lying around, so that’s $585, so you think it’s necessarily over $1K? Besides, this is assuming that someone already owns a laptop that qualifies for this, I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to doing all of that when you can have a desktop or a gaming laptop.

your missing the point, I said it needs to be sub 300 bucks. You came back with a solution that was over 1000 bucks NEW. Now if we didn’t just go new and shped around could get the laptop probably around $500-600 that has to be thunderbolt capable, a gpu we will say $85 because that’s how much you said, then get a the dock which is anywhere from $150 to $300 and psu if the dock does not have it say $50-100 .

Plus the trouble shooting and the setup, even though its plug and play to us many look at it like some sort unknown art.
I say you are looking at at lest $750 bucks if you shop around -edit, I can not find a new windows laptop under 1000 with thunderbolt, if anyone else knows of one with a i5 at lest let me know- , which again is not what the average console gamer will do, needs to be all in one place, one package. They want it to be easy to get, require little to no work on their part and to have it look “good” under their tv and not nerdy in anyway for pride reasons.

you are approaching this like a pc gamer, I am stating why a console gamer will not game on that setup.

yet we are talking people who play on consoles that most likely dont have a laptop with thunderbolt. I can only draw from my friends, none of them have one that has thunderbolt or even have a laptop. Many just use their phones for everything, which is a growing trend in younger millennials.

Sigh, phones I tell ya, don’t understand why kids my age glue their heads into it so much. Social Media is a nuisance for the life of me. I was carried away cause I recently thought of that myself, but since I already have a desktop, I have no need for a setup like that.

thunderbolt 3.0 like a boss.

you can find more on this list.

that said I’d recommend looking for laptops with m.2(ngff) slots they are slower at 8gb/s but egpu adapters that use it are around $80.also if you use a gpu that gets power from just the pci-e slot like the rx 460 then you can use a cheap power brick.

Your post broke my web browser, good old FireFox.

While I think that could work, and I would like to try it, that cpu, being a low power version, seems like it would bottleneck on newer games or am I wrong?

Not saying it can’t be done, but for the cheaper option you have to do your homework, have to do some thinking and your average console gamers just want it to work with out have to do work… like at all, if its more than turning it on and off again you lose ppl

that depends on the game but you can expect it to perform on par with a athalon 860k at stock.

I thought about getting this exact laptop, but I am afraid the i5 6200U won’t serve me well for very long considering that my i5 4300U struggles with some things like Dolphin.
