Tedious WRX80 Optimization Advice Request

I recently got my hands on a second EVGA 3090 FTW3 along side the EVGA NVLINK bridge. Long story short, I’m making an all EVGA watercooled workstation in the EVGA DG-8 case. (If anyone is looking for one I have a second case btw).

The relevant parts I need advice for configuration with are as follows:

2 3090 FTW3 with EK waterblocks
Asrock WRX80 Creator R2.0
Ryzen Threadripper pro 3975WX
4 X 4 NVME Asrock RAID Card
EVGA 4 Slot NVLINK Bridge

Here’s the Motherboard Manual Recommendedation for GPU Layout

I’m learning linux on a laptop but I use this workstation to do stuff that has deadlines so down the line I don’t mind switching. For now I need to use windows and i’d like any insights you all have on diverging from the motherboard recommendation since I want both gpus in x16 slots. I know it won’t make much of a difference, but I’m already far beyond any of this mattering. I would just like to soothe my FOMO by placing these components in the optimal position for maximum bandwidth. Any advice?

My best guess would be using either slots 1 and 5 or 2 and 5. If the first slot shares lanes and you’ve an nvme ssd in you should probably use slots 2 and 5.

I have my GPU in slot7 so it’s not blocking another one, and it’s working fine at gen4x16

I remember something about having to enable the ipmi VGA because it would not boot without GPU in slot one but it was a very long time ago and I’m not sure it’s still true.
