System Shock 2

I can't believe no one is talking about this!  System Shock 2 is being released through GOG.com!  Fuly compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  And ready to mod!  This game still has a mod community, somehow.  You can get mods that increase the model polys, textures, and even sounds.

Looks like the rights were purchased by a new company called Night Dive Studios http://www.nightdivestudios.com/   From the almost-completely-barren website: Night Dive Studios develops original and innovative games with a strong emphasis on fun and rewarding experiences. We also specialize in finding classic, abandoned and forgotten PC games and bringing them back into the hands of gamers.

RPS has an interview here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/13/many-questions-system-shock-2-comes-to-gog/  My highlights are:

The game will be released as it was originally released, but they say "Fans will be able to apply the mods they know and love, and hopefully we may see some new mods from the community in the future."  The guy who made the SHTUP texture pack has already said he may do another update. http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140849  I haven't seen anything from the makers of System Shock: Rebirth

Full current hardware compatibility!  "the game runs pretty much flawlessly on Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8. Our most recent build has gone through all of our test team PCs without a hitch"

GOG.com's most requested game has finally made it to their storefront (Will, in 15 hours or so...)

I'm pretty excited!  Are you?

Even though I already own it, I'm definitely excited lol. It will give newer gamers a chance to see where the Shock originated. Though I do like the Bioshock games, they are no System Shocks. Though to be fair the first system shock is hell on my hand.

thats great

im more exicted about the Planetscape Torment HD Remake though

I just found out myself and came straight to teksyndicate.com to make a topic about it but omegajimes beat me to it! I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I follow Trent Oster, the guy who runs Overhaul games on twitter.  It seems like everyday someone asks him to drop the BG series and just make Torment.  :D

My girlfriend makes fun of me because I own original copies of the BG games and Torment, the Atari Collection that includes BG and Torment, as well as both games on gog.com.  And I'm totally going to buy anything Overhaul releases, I was so impressed with BG:EE.

I can't believe no one is talking about this!

I did...in a thread I posted 2 days ago (which got no response) :P Btw, it's already up on GoG now: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/system_shock_2

Never gave the system shock games a try. Might do it.

Played it on Windows 98.

Got scared.

Stopped playing it.

Hey Dan, I didn't see your thread.  Sorry.

I'm happy to report it works great on Ubuntu with the mods :D

I have to see if there's a way to link the saved games to a common folder so I can play on Windows or Ubuntu.   [EDIT] - That was easy, turns out I can make a linked folder, and move that to my POL installation.  That's fantastic!

So I am thinking of getting this despite my backlogue.

I would of thought there would be a list of everyone comparing what mods they have installed and why. I know Logan already did a vid and he (like I will probably do) has only cleaned up the game visually and not changed what things look or play like. So in other words hi res versions of the original textures.

So who's getting it and going to mod the crap out of it?

Logan did change the way NPCs and enemies look. That's what the Rebirth 02 mod does. I recommend not using that if you want the enemies to look the way the developers inteded them to. Also Tacticool changes the skins on the weapons to much more detailed versions so I would recommend that.
