I have been a Logitech user for a long time so when it was time to try out mechanical switches for the first time the G710+ to me was the obvious choice.
It turns out I love Cherry Brown so in that regard I picked right.
However there is a fatal design flaw in the G710+ and that is the super brittle key-caps with a total lack of stabilizers
I've broke probably 6 keys so far. Mostly the "larger than 1x1" keys but I broke the Esc key as well.
I have large hands and when I am on WASD user the shift, Crtl and cap-locks with the edge of my pink on the corner.
Again there are NO stabilizers on the "larger than 1x1" keys so the break frequently.
I contacted Logtech and got canned Customer Service that i could put in a warranty claim. If I want to shipp the entire keyboard at my own cost and be down a keyboard for 2-3weeks......for broken keycaps. Going to pass on that. Also the Logitech support that I spoke with was not aware that keycaps on this keyboard where replacable GG.
Anyway I have since ordered the replacement WASD +123456 set of textured keys from Corsair (BTW those don't break so really this is Logitechs' issue not Cherry's).
This rant mostly came because I just broke the second Crtl that I shifted from the other side.
Huge design flaw in my book and the last Logitech product I by for awhile.
PS keyboard junkies do you thing that PBT caps would be stronger?
I bought the same keyboard 2 months ago and I don't have a single broken keycap, but I agree that the keycaps have a lack of stability. Besides that I really like the keyboard and the brown switches! The keyboard itself is also really sturdy, it doesn't bend or anything.
Beside the customer service which pisses me off the most the design itself is just poor.
Even on my cheap membrane work keyboard it has stabilizers (1) for the larger keys so all of the force isn't pivoting on the tiny bit of plastic in the center of the keys (2).
I live in Finland so I have the nordic version of the keyboard so the keys look a bit different and when I checked, it's only the capslock key that doesn't have any stabilizer. All of the other long keycaps have stabilizers.
Btw I removed the o-rings under the keycaps because I like the clicky sound!
Night and day difference. Finally getting why everyone loves there Cherry keyboards.
Also at about a month and half no wiggle and no broken keys.
Side note I got to fiddle with the new G910 and pretty sure those new switches fell like rubber dome switches for like $200 so I am done with Logitech's keyboards.
Those boards seem to be hit or miss in the quality control department. Some people love the board and have no issues, others hate it and say it has serious quality issues. Maybe they have multiple factories that use different components? Could explain the wildly varying opinions on it.
Either way it sucks you had so many issues and got so little help. Logitech customer service has gone down hill of late it seems. I dealt with them years ago and it was great... but recently I put in an rma on my g500s, and it took months for them to finally get around to sending me a replacement (err, a G502 anyway). I too think I might be done with Logitech for a while after this one inevitably dies, just as my previous 2 G series mice have (3 if you count my G5 that I repaired myself). Sad, because I've been using their products continuously for more than a decade.
just to point out, on all mechanical keyboards that use Cherry MX switches, 1u - 1.75u keycaps won't have any stabilisers. Anything 2u (i.e. backspace) or larger will have stabilisers.
This is some awful QC though. I would recommend tweeting a pic to @Logitech though, usually publicly displaying a poor product might actually get you somewhere.
