Suggestions for Cubic ATX Cases

Hey Guys,

I'm currently using the Fractal Design Define R4 without any complaints about the case itself. but I kind a fell in love with the "cubic" formfactor (Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 or Cooler Master HAF XB). The cubic-design would also help me alot with my desk-situation since I have speaker-stands on either side of my desk and since the Define R4 is a "deep" case it always is kind of in the way...

The CaseLabs (S3 and S5) would be great if they would support ATX,,,

So I thought I'd ask the community if there are some cubic-design-atx-cases I haven't heard of :)

I also have the idea of placing my build on some kind of mount so it can "hang" beneath the table and won't be in the way, so if you have some solid cubic or standard-cases (supporting ATX) with the i/o interface (headphone-jack on-off switch etc.) facing the front (not the top like my R4) I'd really appreciate it :))

Greetings from Vienna!

how does the 6300 and 7950 perform

Well that would be a candidate for a personalmessage to me. I can't however really answer it anyways because I haven't pushed it near it's limits and haven't overclocked it yet. I'm mostly working off the first decade of this century gamingwise ;) Therefore there was no game I had problems using this setup.

the Cooler master HAF XB is a great case, you can stand it, and will look like the little brother of the Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 just add a window  and will be a great case, because you dont have the PSU or other stuff on the way :D

I think you've found the best examples already.  There's the Jonsbo V3 / Cooltek maxi cube, I think it takes micro-ATX.  I don't like the layout of the V3 / V4 though (V4 equals maxi cube).

To my mind the best cube format is 12" by 12" by 12" (that's 305 mm X 305 X 305 mm), with a micro-ATX lying flat and the PSU underneath.  No DVD and a big fan in the front.  No one sells this as far as I know.

I agree completely about cases being too deep.  Even an ATX tower doesn't need to be more than 305 mm deep (it needs to be higher though).  The trick is to put the drives behind the motherboard and eliminate that front space where the drive bays are.

Aesthetically I like the cube (or "cube tower" that's what the G4 cube really was) format better for desktop PCs.

Well thank you two very mucg for the help. It's a shame that the market for ATX-Cubes is that tiny. I guess it's gonna be the Air 540. I'm sure the HAF XB is a great case, but I prefer the sleek design of the Corsair case.

Another idea I had was using an HTPC case (Fractal Design Node 605) mounted directly under my table. Would look great but I'm not sure if HTPC cases are capable for hardware like mine, considering overclocking in the future. Your thoughts on that?

Two tower cases: overall seems like a good design... the Aerocool silent case.

Overall the best small case I found is the Jonsbo U3.  It is a tower format, but air design is good and it uses space very efficiently.

Both are micro-ATX though!  I think you're set on ATX format...

ATX? The Case Labs M8, then. You want a cubic Case Labs, but the S3 is too small, so get the next step up!

micro-ATX is no good for me ;) thanks for the help though

and about the M8, would be great but it's basically just to expensive for me.

418$ (minimum) + shipping to Europe + customs, would be way too expensive, sadly.

Any suggenstions on a "Gaming HTPC-Case"?
