Sudden Performance Drop?

I was playing The Witcher 2 getting 60+ fps and all of a sudden it dropped to 15-20 fps when I went to a menu. Any reason why my in game performance would suddenly tank? I've tried restarting, messing with saves... I was playing on the "High Spec" preset, so I procedurally lowered the graphical options until I was running the lowest I could, and that only managed to bump me up to 25-30 fps. I have no idea what to do at this point.

Sorry, this is what I'm running. I've got my 660 OCed to a 1189 MHz core clock.

  • AMD FX-8350
  • GA 990FXA UD3
  • 16 Gb RAM
  • MSI GTX 660

I have two suggestions...

-Unstable Overclock (some games can't handle the overclocks other games can)

-Uber Sampling (make sure that is off)

If all else fails, make sure you have the latest drivers, patches, yada yada yada...

Just reinstalled the drivers and ran it with MSI Afterburner, and it's showing that my GPU is running at 324 MHz. I'm talking locked at exactly 324, so I'll try underclocking it? It ran fine for a few weeks playing the game at 1189 MHz, so I'm not sure why it would do this out of the blue...

That means your card crashed most likely. Did you try restarting your pc?

Yeah, after all of the above, restarting my pc, and underclocking my GPU, it fixed the problem. I tried a modest OC afterwards and that worked fine as well. Thanks for the help :)

Yep here to help.
