I'm planning to buy an Android tablet and set up a satellite dish (each for separate reasons). Now, I would like the sat receiver to be connected via HDMI to my A/V Receiver... and be capable to stream the picture to the Android tablet via WiFi.
To clarify, I do NOT want it to stream a different channel on each device, I would use it either or - if I'd use the tablet, I wouldn't use the HDMI-out and vice-versa. Is that even possible?
I have very little knowledge reg. satellite receivers, and I'm not an Android expert either (yet) so I don't know if that's just wishful thinking, but if it's possible, I'd appreciate any tips - which sat receiver would you recommend for that (preferably some available in Europe)? How much choice is there?
I would prefer no providers at all. I want to buy a dish and a receiver, and get "free to air" channels - no providers, no payments. The "problem" is the receiver - it turns out to be surprisingly difficult to Google clear info about which ones can do this. A lot of keywords are misleading - including "streaming" shows tons of info about streaming via internet.
There seem to be apps for that, too, but they all turn out to be some BS low quality streaming services that may or may not work, that's not what I'm looking for.
Yup, Sky Anywhere is very convenient. It works great, at least in Germany, I can't speak for any other region.
If that's not a possibility, you can also use a linux box with a DVB-S card, and either stream the output to you tablet (built-in feature of most linux multimedia applications, very simple linux streaming howto is on the Twitch website, the only difference being that you would host the stream only for your LAN. For channel switching you can just use the IR functionality that is only built into every linux box, you can even easily reprogram that, or just use one of many open source IR blaster applications), or use something like SplashTop.
Thanks, I'll look into it. I'm really new to satellite-related stuff, always had cable, can't have normal internet streaming TV (no such service in my region and Netflix via VPN is a no-go - to much bandwidth loss to make it possible).
Getting HDTV can be a problem too. I'm mainly interested in just 3 channels - ProSieben, SAT.1 and RTL (all German channels)... but I'm not in Germany so stuff like HD+ is not available. My regional providers don't offer these in HD specifically so yeah... I'm looking into any alternatives, but even streaming 720x576 would be interesting so I'll check this out, thanks :)
