Building a proxmox cluster, starting with some old devices i have laying around and first node has proxmox 9.2 ve iso installed from a flash drive and it just has a single 300Gb hdd. i ran into an immediate catch-22. i have no network to connect to, everything i build must be air gapped for… reasons.
So I’m seeking a good tutorial for setting up the first proxmox node/host with no browser interface available, every thing i am finding assumes i can just punch in the ip address to connect from another device on the network, but this the only device so far and there is no LAN (yet)
If you have a spare switch (even just a basic 4 port 100Mbit one) and a Raspberry Pi (any version with network jack) you can turn that RPi into a DCHP server so you’d have a basic network. Don’t get sucked into the rabbit hole that’s DNS, you don’t need it. (on Linux, the hosts file will do just fine as alternative)
Proxmox is based around using the web interface to setting it up. You can keep it air gapped by connecting a laptop or whatnot directly to it over a network connection and some static IPs.
i’m back with a old catalyst series series switch that powers on and is plugged in to my proxmox box via serial console cable but after some trial and error i’m not having any success trying to connect to the switch. I found several examples such as ‘screen /dev/ttyS0 115200’ but i dont have screen or minicom and no connection to internet to install these things
