I have VirtualBox 6 for Ubuntu 16.04.1, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to have it point to a HDD for VDI files. I don’t see an option to in the GUI. I can do this on Mac and WIndows, but doesn’t look like it for Linux.
So you want to use an actual hard drive instead of a disk image file?
If so, this article might be of use:

No, like, I need to point to a HDD, which is where the .VDI file is stored
So you want to load in an existing VDI, that’s on a different drive?

Yeah
That’s for OS X
or for existing VM
You can also go to File -> Virtual media Manager to copy, release, delete, etc your images.
Elaborate? It doesn’t let you select it? Or does the disk image not show in the file browser?
The GUI does not let me navigate to my HDD so that I can select the VDI file
Wait, so you have an HDD that has the disk image you want to use right?
Correct. I have a HDD, and on that HDD, is the VDI file I would like to use.
Okay, where is that HDD mounted, do you have permissions to read and write to that folder?
Yes! Thank you! I got it!
This is SOOOOOOOOO fucking weird
I’m used to just clicking off to the side where partitions and drives are mounted, as I’m used to Mac and Windows.
I had to navigate to: Computer > media > Name > Name of Storage > etc…
I found this out by right clicking the storage folder/location and selecting properties, and then where it says “Location:” that is where you need to navigate to
It’s probably the GNOME (Ubuntu uses GNOME right?) File select dialog. KDE 5 dialog has all the stuff to the side:
I gotta switch over to that then. This has been a hell fire.
Yeah
