Every time the system freezes I have to hard reset the system, when booting back up the Event Viewer shows I just incorrectly shut down Windows.
I’ve tried reinstalling Windows to fix the issue, this didn’t work. Infact, when trying to reinstall a third time I had it freeze while on this screen.
My motherboard by default runs my RAM at 1.2V, but the NewEgg page for my RAM shows it’s 1.35V so I’ve upped that thinking that may be the stability issue, same thing.
One of the times it froze I heard the Windows disconnected device sound right before and it appears my built-in network card disconnected as the network indicator in the bottom right had a red X when I was previously connected.
I’ve run Prime95 for about an hour with no issue.
Running Cinebench CPU and GPU tests didn’t crash the system.
I ran MemTest86 off a flash drive and it got all the way to pass 3/4 before the system froze. Not really sure what I should do next or if this 100% points to the RAM being the issue.
I’m thinking it’s either an issue with the motherboard or RAM, but I need some advice.
Very likely that the RAM is causing issues. Ryzen is very picky about RAM and timings. A few things you can try:
Run the RAM at SPD values. Look at the RAM settings inside the BIOS. It should let you run at SPD values instead of auto or XMP
Enter the timings and voltage on your own. Look up your RAM specs and dial in the numbers by hand in the BIOS, and don’t leave things on auto or use XMP memory profiles
"I’ve successfully installed Windows 10 Pro " op said that and 1 failed install and 2 successful, could be hardware or software prob hardware but still could be driver as w10 install is using default drivers that could be crashing hard .
They are specific Ryzen Compatible RAM sticks. The JEDEC Speedbins on those are actually tuned for it as I can see in my Ram Database.
If they don’t work at JEDEC speedbin 0, they are not worth the effort of changing timings or voltages.
And essentially qualify as broken. And I’d bet a whisker the RAM is fine.
It’s a RAM incompatibility. Your board likely hasn’t had it’s BIOS updated and/or the RAM you got is completely incompatible to the point it won’t post.
Return the set you have, get G.Skill Flare X RAM and try again.
I updated my BIOS to the latest version available. I’ve been using the same RAM, why would it suddenly stop working altogether? I’ve seen many other people report that it works with this motherboard and works with many other Ryzen systems.
It is NOT your ram. The set you have is one of the best for Ryzen. Get rid of that motherboard. One here had issues running a 1700X at stock on that board, also I had its bigger brother and had issues with a 1600. I went for a better board for a few dollars more. It arrives Tuesday.
The board could also cause issues with the RAM. It really depends on BIOS support, and not just the capabilities of Ryzen. I don’t see OP’s RAM on the QVL for the board, so some tweaking will be necessary. Maybe the latest BIOS changed something regarding to memory support.
Does the board not give any audible POST codes at all?
What? Now you are speculating. Click on the OP’s link to his ram. Read the red text below product description…
A review with similar board.

Pros: B-Die
CL14
Works on first boot with Asrock AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac AM4
Doesn’t get hot
Nothing flashy looking
Adding more voltage allows for even tighter timings
Cons: Heatsink can be lower. Noctua C14S with a 140mm fan below barely fit over it
Probably faulty cpu. AMD has been selling faulty cpu’s end of story. Can’t even turn off my system without holding the power button down and everything is fine. Sometimes it boots other times hangs or does the Dr.Debug insanity. No faulty motherboard, settings or anything else.
Tested with 2 X370 motherboards, 2 Ryzen cpu’s, 2 High-End psu’s 3 different ram sticks and 3 different hdd’s.
RMA, the cpu ASAP. AMD knows about the issues and will replace your cpu.
Look at the european forums, people are RUNNING away from AMD lately, selling. Shows how many don’t want to go through the hassle of an rma. When their Intel counterparts “just work”
Intel has got the convinience game going for them, for sure
People in Scandinavian (probably others to) forums do not want to state why they are selling., It’s simply massive amounts of selling topics, especially in the last few months. If you know other languages you’re welcome to take a look yourself.
Some mentions are bsod’s, faulty ram/motherboard, mouse being stuck etc etc. All mentioned in relation to the Ryzen platform
