[SOLVED] Need a USB connection over 50FT

Hey Techs,

I have a touchscreen over 50FT from the pc, it disconnects frequently. Right now i have it going over cat6 and turning in to usb on both ends. i found USB “boosters” on amazon but they are also “powerless” so i have my doubts.

i was thinking about putting a USB hub in the middle of the line, assuming that the issue is a timeout and that the hub would reset this.

this connection would only ever be the touchscreen, it would not need to have high bandwidth.

any input appreciated.

Edit: i ordered a 49FT cable, ran it this morning and its still working.

Thanks,

Cody

Maximum length of USB 2 is 5 meters; a couple of powered hubs in between should do the job.

A -powered- hub in between should do the trick, but more interestingly what kind of screen is it that you use?

You can get active (powered) usb cables which are longer than 5m, not sure what the maximum length is on those.

why not usb over ethernet? 150ft limit apparently

Corning makes optical USB cables with lengths up to 165 FT.

However they are very expensive and do not provide power.

Seem like they all ready tried this and it disconnects frequently.

Also a note on the Monoprice listing might put and end to it before it starts.

Note that this adapter supports USB 1.0/1.1 speeds only. It is not compatible with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 speeds.
