{Solved} [Continuous Log] Linux and windows on a laptop

@spidernet i went into bios and put hdd to first and window to second it just booted into windows

Well then. I wonder where did Mint install the boot loader.

I think it's better if you re install. Follow the guide I provided some posts above. But first wipe the partition that you created for Mint, so you're back with a big chunk of unallocated space. Don't touch the windows partitions.

Unless someone has any other ideas.

Edit: it's 2 am I'll go to sleep and check back tomorrow.

see ya

Going back to the Live environment and wiping the Mint partition and checking what's up with the install. But modifying the mbr could be an option as Grub is probably in the Mint partition...

yea i did

where are you at now?

Turn off secure boot and you may have to do this. I had to do all that for my girl friends laptop because the bios only recognizes windows boot manager.

From what I see here, I would recommend (even thought I am late) get VMWare player and test Linux out via VMs. If you turn off secure boot there is a possibility that your windows will not boot until you turn it back on.

He has Linux installed, The Windows mbr is booting first. mbr needs to either be edited to point to grub or a reinstall of Linux is needed.

Seems like there is some kind of an issue with grub not working,
@cynicrf any idea?

If he doesn't reinstall Mint again, He would have to edit the Windows mbr to point to Grub to be able to have a boot menu option when he boots the system, there are programs like EasyBCD 2.2 to edit the mbr, to point to grub, but that's about all I can contribute. there are some youtube vids on this. "non traditional way dual boot"

AHHHH no what he needs to do is have secure boot enabled when he boots from the boot disk. Then install linux and make sure he installs grub efi to /boot/efi

then grub will populate the windows mbr into it. This is much easier to do as in windows 8.1 and 10 you can no longer access the boot menu because how microsoft redesigned their boot loader

so should i uninstall linux then install it like that

yeah because honestly theres nothing on it so what can that hurt

(JUST MAKE SURE you install grub to its own grub efi partition like I said. I would recommend you google how they did it in windows 8.1 and ubuntu dual boots for example. THOROUGHLY read how to do it or else you can seriously fuck up your system bad

would you say this is a good tutorial http://linuxbsdos.com/2015/10/30/how-to-uninstall-linux-or-delete-linux-partitions-from-windows/.

On a side note what flavor do you recommend

Flavor of ubuntu or distribution. first off id say go with what fits your purpose. Second off I started on fedora and then moved to opensuse after distro hopping. Id say opensuse spoils the living fuck out of you and you should install it but if you want an ubuntu flavor. I personally like Kubuntu and if your really light weight install server then install lxqt from the command line and its very nice

im looking into opensuse now, do you think that link showed a good way to uninstall the current linux that i cant access
