I will have to check into that then. It’s a bit of a problem if that doesn’t work. "/ I might be able to unbind, but not to bind it without a reboot, it would be so much easier if I just got myself one more GPU, but If I do that, I’ll have to also invest in a new PSU… Everything is just getting so expensive.

There is a much older Kernel(5.2.1) in that issue , maybe it’s been fixed now.

Note the issue is marked “open”

Software developers love nothing more than closing a long-standing issue.

Well, I have to look into it then. We will see eventually. I’m almost done, so I will do a reboot later and test it out. If it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work. Not much I can do in that case. Well, buy another GPU is one option. I want a RX 6600 graphics card, that would have been nice.

Apparently there’s another command too, with a lot of information… A bit too much actually.

Good God, the formatting.

Please, review this thread; the method in which you posted the information makes it near impossible to parse:

Yes, going to read that right away. The other post you sent me…

" ERROR Device removal is currently not supported outside of fbcon"

I didn’t get what fbcon was at first, but then I found this site… The Framebuffer Console, it’s basically stating that it cannot use the command that is used, in order to unbind the amdgpu driver, but the script that I found is using efi-framebuffer, in order to unbind drivers. Won’t know until I break it. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: haha

Even better now that I changed the earlier posts, so that they don’t show all the clutter, thanks for the advice with the discourse updates.

Basically, you cannot unbind a GPU if it’s currently in use by xorg or wayland.

Which, yeah, makes sense.

You should really just wrap terminal output in code blocks. This allows people to grep things much more easily. context switching from code blocks to forum formatting is very difficult and slows people down. It also makes it so we can’t easily copy+paste the content into a terminal if we want to manipulate the text.

So what happens if I shut down x.org?

You have to log your user out, close all applications and terminate the login manager.

I really don’t know much about single GPU passthrough because I find it to be overly complicated and not ideal.

How do I even access a terminal from there? I could use init2 though.

Yeah, it seems a bit complicated, but It’s really interesting how it can be used, I will be testing soon, anyway.

See what kind of output i will get.

GPU’s are really pricey now, can’t even by a used crap card without it being more expensive then a new crap card.

That’s why I went the 5700g route.

I don’t want to ‘upgrade’ to the same core count. "/ I want more cores, and like 2-4 GPU’s in my computer, and 64-128 GB Ram, four screens and lots of VM’s. ^^ I basically want to kill the Raspberry Pi dependency that I have right now, but I don’t think I have enough cores to go around. "/

A 5700g is at least 40% more performant than a 1700x.

Well… I don’t have the money needed to use it. It means new motherboard, and CPU, and I don’t want a cheap motherboard that I can’t use later on, the one I have now, was one of the first Ryzen motherboards released. It’s been a good computer so far, but it’s only compatible for up to the third generation of Ryzen CPU’s. Which sucks majorly.

I will consider it though, it’s an interesting proposition non the less.

I was cleaning and in the midst of it, I was looking for an old Dovado router, because my friend had been asking about if I still had it laying around…

Guess What?!

I found a working nVidia card… I’m on it now, and The AMD RX580 is out of the computer for the time being, I’m going to put it back in the first slot again asap, but I have to put all my browser windows into one or two so that the computer doesn’t die from opening 7 windows with 20 tabs each.

I read a lot… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Anyway! I was thinking, since I have this one… How do I do next, I need to reinstall my computer anyways, because I need to test something out, before I go bananas and start up some GPU pass-through, but… There are so much I don’t know about this card… I had forgotten that I got it from some work computer from a friend years ago.

How do I even do later on? Do I install this computer with one card and then put the other in so that it’s drivers doesn’t get installed? I’m also thinking… I need to Pass-Through two drives, but there are actually a lot of games that work out of the box in Linux, so I don’t know if I need to pass anything really. "/

Look at the size of my scroll bar (scrolling through tabs). My main PC is a Pi 4 8GB. You should be fine.

I didn’t know that Firefox could do that. I use Brave browser, though.

I downgraded to only two windows now, instead of 6. How is that working? What Distro are you using on the RPi? I have three RPi4’s; two 8GB versions and one 4 GB version. I have bots on a 8GB in an Argon NEO case. And the 4GB have a Argon ONE v1 case, I’m thinking PiHole of this, but maybe I need it to be a 8GB for that… and the other 8GB has a Argon ONE v2 case with POP!_OS Installed on a m.2 SSD, I even bought the Argon Remote, because I’m switching between LibreELEC and POP! on it… "/ I don’t know which one I prefer though, the RPi’s have had a lot of problems with the playback of videos on YT though. I’m thinking that RPi5 might actually be a contendent to normal use computers, and if that’s the case… I might actually just buy a RPi5 with the largest sum of memory, and then use that for surfing and media, and the stationary for gaming & streaming, I should install FF on here, so that I have a browser dedicated for the use of just a few specific pages for streaming, such as Twitch and Stream Alarms etc. ^^

I wonder if the RPi5 might actually be capable of streaming… I’m mean, streaming of games from the stationary, that way I can have the stationary without any screens attached on the other side of the room. VNC. ^^

Void Linux. I’ve been running this for a while, because I compiled it myself, but recently, the devs released aarch64 musl and glibc for the Pi 4, so you can easily try it now. Void is not really beginer friendly, but it’s the distro that fits my needs and wants perfectly.

Pi-Hole should run on a 2GB and even 1GB Pi just fine.

Hmm, yeah, not sure how you would go around to fix that. Long time ago, I used the Kodi youtube plugin, but it stopped working after some time, due to it requiring an API key (ridiculous!). So I just moved to youtube-dl and playing videos in mpv.

Screen tearing had been a problem on x11, but I moved to sway and it works pretty well for up to 1080p videos (I mostly watch in 720p, because I’m more interested in the content presented, rather than the visual quality of the content).

I think the Pi 4 should be capable of streaming if you use ffmpeg. Depends on the settings though. If the people who did Pi-KVM managed to make the Pi stream display inputs from a USB capture card, it should be possible.

The only reason why I can use the Pi as my main PC is because I’m running my root partition on an SSD on USB3. I’ve first tried Ubuntu 20.04 and then 20.10 on the Pi 4 on a pretty fast SD card, but the experience wasn’t that great. I moved to Void because some more niche programs were already in the repository, that Ubuntu aarch64 did not have (like abduco) and because I really like the xbps package manager. And the Void devs made Void ridiculously safe to update from a stale installation.. You don’t see that on a lot of rolling release distros (I also like that Void is not bleeding edge).

Anyway, I think we derailed your own thread quite considerably, sorry for the really off-topic comments.
