Should I upgrade to skylake?

Is it really worth it to upgrade to Skylake? I only use my build for productivity and 1080p gaming. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

edit: this is my current build

for your 4690k, no,
unless you absolutely positively think you need 10% more performance for hundreds of dollars

NEX PSUs are supposedly sub par

Otherwise did you already have the motherboard?

You should go for the Xeon 1231v3 over that i5, also this has a larger SSD, I wouldn't say the 390X is worth it over the 390 when you could more than triple your SSD storage

you're right, it's not worth shelling out hundreds more just for that small margin.

forgot to mention that I already have the build that I posted. the PSU has been working just fine for me honestly. I intended on upgrading from 80 plus bronze, but never had the chance to.

more SSDs or monitors maybe. I wouldn't upgrade anything else

Yeahno, not worth the upgrade. Your system should still be pretty good for another generation or two.

Then no, there would be no point, invest in a nice 4k display or something, either the LG something 27" free-sync one, or like the crossover 32" one

I wanna keep it single monitor for now, because I'm honestly not ready for multi monitors yet lmao. another ssd and more ram is on the top of the list for upgrades.

If I intend to build another system, it would be a zen based amd build. high hopes for zen.

1080p 144hz 1ms freesync monitor sounds amazing, even a 120hz monitor without freesync. :D

Too bad those ones are all TN displays though, starts at $250, really though just save up for the 1440p 144hz IPS ones

it would be my last upgrade to get. I still want to upgrade the ram, psu, and add another ssd

Well bump it up the priority list, it'll easily be worth getting over that stuff, unless you really need more RAM of course

Honestly I'm prolly gonna do the same thing, but I'm far worse off than you: 8350 that can't really go past 4.5 GHz due to a VCore wall x-). Zen really has to at LEAST match the relative performance of the Intel competition to stir up the market a bit and get pricing back in check... Intel pricing for K-sku chips right now is asinine at best -_-

its more like my ocd wanting to just fill up the last two dimm slots lmao. my fiance is asking me what I want for valentines day, maybe computer parts?

I honestly was all for getting the 8350 and building off that, but the more and more I kept thinking I ended up going with intel. Everyone is grabbing the i5-4460 instead of the 4690k. I have the 4690k, and I'm glad I got it when it was at $200.
