Setting up Linux partitions manually {Help pls} [SOLVED]

Hello People of the Interwebs.

I'm trying to install Fedora 22 on my laptop because the USB i have is too small (8GiB) to even download and extract all updates. I tried to update Fedora and i run out of space.

So I created an empty partition in Windose 40GiB in size and currently trying to put it there. However the automatic process would just wipe my whole HDD so i need to manually create the /boot, /swap, /root partitions. The utility is telling me to specify a mounting point for the stated partitions. But i have no clue what to write in the box.

When i press Update Settings another window pops up asking me to do it again so I don't know what to do with this.

The reason i'm asking is because i don't want to screw up my Windose. I have already looked in my Linux book but didn't find anything that explains this process.

I would create a partition of about 200MB and set it as "/boot" as your mount point.

To keep things simple, I would then roll the rest of the drive into "/" as your mount point.

as you learn more stuff, you will figure out new and magical ways to partition your drive.

Every time i try to create the BOOT partition i get error saying "Unable to allocate the requested partition scheme"
I tried using 500MB.

I can get to this point but when i press the + button to add another partition i get the same error.

Are you using MBR? I know that your error does not say not enough free space, but the cause should still be the same.

There are a few bugs of this on fedora's bug page bugzilla

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1142439

This guy had the same problem, not on Fedora tho:

Creating a primary partition for Linux solved his problem.

But i have enough space. 40GB

I think it's because you already have 4 primary partitions on the drive.

Or am I still thinking REALLY old school here.

Yes there are 4 of them. The 1st picture is showing them.

Yep, MBR has a max of 4 primary partitions.

So what do i need to do? Create an extended partition?

Or install Fedora all on one partition.

That what i was trying to do but it wont let me.

EDIT: I have deleted the 40GB partition but now Gpart is saying i can't create Extended partition.

So you have 465.7 gb for windows, a 40 gb partition which you just deleted and 200 mb of a partition named boot? If you did not delete /boot do that.

Yeah they are all gone.

On the Install Destination screen, after you clicked the partition that you wanted to install Fedora on, and after you clicked done, didn't a box come up asking if you wanted to "automatically configure my Fedora installation to the selected disks and return to the main menu?"

I think it would be better to have Fedora mess with creating the partitions.

When i pick the automatic option it says no Disk was selected. It only shows the physical drives but not partitions. However i managed to create 2 partitions now but not 3rd one. Does this look OK to you?

Yep, looks like Fedora will use your 40 gb partition. You probably do not need swap, but its fine to keep it and the partitioning looks fine.

Ahhrrgg, I'm doing something different right now. Even after deleting the 40GB partition and making a new one with ext4 File system. The utility still can't see it.

Now I can see the partition named Linux but i can't reclaim its space. This is fucking draining my energy. I not surprised that only 1% of population is using it. It's a fucking headache.

Ya, Linux can be a pain the butt. Are you using Fedora for any special reason? You can try installing Ubuntu to see if that it will install better with manual partitioning.

I can't use Ubuntu. I have bought a linux book that is based around Red Hat and Fedora. I'm trying to lean stuff to become a sys admin.
