Second monitor not detected after driver update, Ubuntu 14.04.2

Hello there.

I just installed Ubuntu and was going through Wendell's set up video. Everything was going pretty smooth, but after I got the Nvidia proprietery drivers from the software center my Second monitor won't work.

It doesn't even seem to be detected, neither in the Ubuntu display settings or the Nvidia X Server Settings.

I think it's because my second monitor is plugged into my mother board and not my GTX770, but I didn't think it would be a problem since they both worked fine with the default open drivers.

Not having two monitors is really a deal breaker for me, since I stream and do graphic design work.

I've googled all day, but people seem to have this problem mostly when trying to connect laptops to external monitors.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Plug your second monitor into you GPU

All I can say is that when restarting my computer, which is running a triple monitor setup on windows 7 with Nvidia drivers for the gtx 970, half the time it doesn't even detect my monitors extra monitors, and the one it does detect appears to be random.

Seriously, Nvidia's multi-monitor solution is shit. even on windows. If I want actual triple monitor surround, I have to switch to it with Nvidia control center, which doesn't or cant remember my monitor setup. For whatever reason, Nvidia assumes you would want triple monitor surround when not game, so if you open something like netflix or youtube, and hit full screen, two of your monitors go black and the middle one plays video.

Fucking seriously, an idiot with a couple of monkeys could have done a better job setting up multiple monitor support. For some goddamned reason, triple monitor surround and multi-monitor detect things differently (triple monitor surround sets everything as 1 big monitor. Multiple monitors sets everything as three different monitors). In triple monitor surround, my left hand screen is monitor number three. In multi-monitor mode, that's monitor number 2. Because.....fucking reasons..

rant over

I only have VGA inputs on my monitor, and I'm using an adapter to connect on of my monitors to the graphics card. I thought I could run two monitors like I did on windows :(

Decided to take the plunge and just buy another VGA to DVI adapter for the problem monitor, Until i can upgrade to two monitors with HDMI. thanks for your help. :)
