I know this is a long shot, but I need some help and I’m really desperate. I will send people beer money I’m so desperate. I bought 20 Seagate HDDs that were 520 and I thought hey I have dealt with this before and can reformate them to 512 without any issue to work on my truenas server. When I did the reformate to 512 the drives refused to be written to and after research found that it was caused because they are hitachi VSP locked with special firmware. I have tired to load the firmware that matches this revision and model and with no luck. I really don’t want to have to eat $500 and also not be able to use drives that I paid for. If anyone can help me please let me know. I have tried everything and have come to the realization that I need to update the drive’s firmware.
post #116 gives the write commands if you can find a valid firmware.
others in there say there used to be a guy that would do it for 5$ a drive but i don’t know if they ever posted his contact info.
mostly people just try to return them and find something less of a hassle though.
