Been looking for the pinout for this 10 pin power plug on this HP SAS backplane. Tried google; found no good info.
Easy to tell 4 of them are ground.
as far as I’m aware, the power portion of the SAS connector is the same so you could do a continuity check on the 12v, 5v, 3.3v pins to the connector right?
or maybe not I’m kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff
You’re not the 1st to suggest that. I felt doubtful about it being simple is all. Electronics have been a hassle recently.

I’m pretty sure they used a bunch of different pinouts on that 10 pin in different models. So you will probably have to continuity test it to be safe. Unless someone happens to know what it is for the exact model its from.
What Giga said - your best bet is to just take a multimeter and ohm out the connections for starters. You’ll definitely have +5V0, +3V3, and GND in there, but it looks like a couple traces disappear under the connector into that TSSOP-28 chip right beside it, so maybe there are some PGOOD or EN or something signals going to those two chips too? Maybe unrelated and that’s just where they routed the traces. Can’t make out the part number on those to tell you what they are just from the picture.
Definitely looks like an easy enough board to reverse engineer, just start with a sheet of paper and draw out where every signal is going… it’ll take some trial and error with a multimeter to find everything but that’s where I’d start if it were me. Would call it a PITA but doable.

Y’know, every time the board design imposter syndrome starts to set in, I see something like this and it makes me feel better lol… for a high reliability part you should never tie one half of a small SMT passive directly to a copper plane (like GND here) and the other to a small trace with a via, because half of it will usually cool faster than the other and even if the part doesn’t tombstone it’ll put a lot of stress on the terminations. Which is bad, especially for an MLCC.
Guess it doesn’t matter here but this board would be unacceptable and rejected in an aerospace design review lol
