These cards are really good. It is hard to find them in stock, though, thanks to cryptocurrency mining.
We've got a full interview with Ed from Sapphire coming up where we grill him a bit about the designs of the card, the VRM and more in a couple of days.
I don't know how common it is but I've had sandybridge mobos in the past that will not work with modern graphics cards without a BIOS update, however that same update removes support for sandybridge chips and only supports Ivy
I wanted to buy a 580 (not this one), but the shops said that it is hopeless to get one (Hungary). Fortunately the 1800X is on a big sale this week (it is barely more expensive than a 7700k), so I could afford a 1070.
That's ... true ... Hm, I see your point. In my situation and my case, I like the idea of tidier cable management. I mean those are dual fan designs, so no extreme length. Unless you are trying to put those cards in an ITX case, there should be no clearance issues in the standard layout cases. 390 is 30+cm/12+inches card. There is no choice. I mean my 270X toxic barely fits with the drive cage installed in my spacious Arc Midi R2, so I definitely understand your point, but those are dual fan cards... It's basically the same design.
The system that you did get a post on, did you use the same Corsair CX430 psu unit? Because if not, those Corsair CX units are kinda nutorious for being wonky.
Another thing that sometimes helps is taking the bios battery out, to reset the board completelly. Also some bioses on OEM boards have set a priority on video output to the igpu, that needs to be changed.
These are sofar the only 3 possibilities i could think of.
Earlier this year, I was able to use the Asus Strix Rx470 8GB to update my Dell Studio 540. Initially, I had the same issues with trying to get the system to post though, but I was able to resolve these issues after reseting the CMOS via the jumper pins on the motherboard.
Maybe removing the CMOS battery would work on other Dell Systems?
Are they really that much better than the 400 series? I'm sure there'll be more available by October. When stores are gearing up for the Christmas season.
The price gouging on this Polaris refresh is absurd with Newegg charging $700 for RX 580s. I was going to buy one to add in Crossfire with my RX 480, but I'll wait for Vega now for sure.
That seems really strange that the machines wouldn't post. What generation of CPU's are in those old work machines? I don't think I've run into an old PC not working with a new GPU as long as I had solid power delivery. This almost seems like it's some sort of artificial Dell lockout to make it so their machines can't be upgraded more than a hardware compatibility issue.
There are a few 460 and 560 left here, no store sells faster AMD cards. I don't have time to wait until October, I need the computer for work as well as gaming.
Yes, the improvement in power consumption makes the lowest cost of running these in constant operation. Miners apparently will pay triple price to get these cards up and producing ASAP. I understand there will be a lower tier Vega at $300 price point to replace the RX 500 series. If so, then I'm better off waiting, so cheers!
