Samsung Enterprise Nvme SSD RMA
I’ve been using U.2 NVME drives for several years now in my personal CAD workstations and I have been very satisfied with the results. mainly intel P3600 & p3700 drives.
Last year I picked up a samsung PM1643a off ebay as a secondary drive and it recently failed on me. It will not boot whatsoever, it is not recognized at bios or in windows devices. My data is backed up so i’m ok. It seems like the drive had a power fault as it does not seem to be consuming any power when plugged in.
The drive is dated for manufacture in 2021.01.
Has anyone had success in RMA-ing an enterprise Samsung NVME ssd? The samsung site mentions nothing about support for enterprise NVME drives. There is no samsung RMA form or website that I can find for enterprise drives. I have emailed a few addresses and no one has responded.
The PM1643a has a 5 year warranty from samsung (stated in the datasheet).
If anyone has any input that would be great.
Thanks a ton!
Hahaha, I just recently RMA’d a 980 Pro and it was a laugh.
there’s no RMA form online, and trying to find it will loop you around web pages – you have to call a support phone number. On that phone call, they will then ask you for your email address, to which they will then send you an email to reply to to start your RMA.
They’ll ask you for tons of info aside from just your serial number and receipt of purchase. They wanted a picture of the drive, a PDF of my bill of sales, and an explanation of what’s wrong (I sent SMART data, and Samsung Magician test screen caps). And, of course, I had to send the drive back via a provided UPS shipping label (I had to provide the box). Once sent, you’ll probably get a notice that they received the return, and an assertion that they will get around to looking at it.
Then, they will ignore you. For me, it was around two weeks (although, to be fair, it was around Thanksgiving.) So, I had to figure out where to check status, where to email for follow-ups (it’s a third party handling the returns, so it’s a different domain – keep your email and text correspondences to keep track of who to contacts.)
Once they get back to you after prompting, they’ll tell you they’ve approved your RMA. For me, they told me they didn’t have any replacement 980 Pros, so they were going to issue me a refund for my documented purchase price. (Uh, OK, I see them on Amazon, but hey, I bought it for almost twice as much as the current price, so a refund will be fine.)
Unfortunately, transferring to the refund department takes another two weeks for some reason. Then, once prompted again, and they finally approve the refund. Then, they sent me to a Citibank site to set up the mechanism/preference for me to get the refund. I get set up and wait another two weeks. After asking where is my refund, finally, Citibank reaches out, the refund is waiting, and I get to pretty easily Zelle the money to my account.
When I initially had to talk to someone voice to give them my email, I figured I was in for a ride, but I had no idea. Still the refund they gave me will get me a PM9A3 and some change, instead of a 980 Pro, so I guess it was worth the trouble.
Thanks for the input, but it seems samsung treats the RMA process different for consumer and enterprise drives. curious if anyone has successfully RMAed a samsung enterprise drive. Thanks
