Safe to test a PC without a case?

Is is safe to test (temporarily) a pc without a case. I want do do some test to check if any parts are dead. Then i want to try a stress test. I don't want to use a case because if any parts fail i would have to take a alot of stuff out and It might be a hassle especially after careful cable managing. The surfave i'd like to use is the motherboard box since its decently large. I'm not sure if its normal or not. Any replys are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Testing it outside of a case is fine. Benchmarking/stressing is fine as well. just make sure its away from everything metalic or static causing. a wooden table would be best. Lay out all the parts. make sure none are touching eachother. and go for it. If temps get too high, put a box fan or something beside it, but the CPU cooler you have should work better in an open environment than in a case.
