I am pretty sure that I ruined the built in audio (only for the mic) can i install a audio card to the motherboard to get the mic back?

A card should restore it if it doesnt then you have a problem with the audio stack on your OS.
What is the audio stack and how would you fix it?

not sure what he's referring to but windows dosn't use a stack for audio. except when using bluetooth which dose have a stack. I don't know any version of linux that uses one ether.
anyway reinstalling the driver for your built in sound chip or using system restore should fix it.
How exactly did you ruin the mic input?
I'm sure he was referring to the audio drivers.
