Router/Modem Help

Hello,

I have the Lunksys WRT54GX2 router, and the Surfboard SB4100 cable modem. I frequently have to reset my router for it stops putting out signal, or it won't let me connect with my laptop.  I usually don't have that problem with my Modem. In games like League of Legends on my laptop, I constantly have to reconnect to their servers for some reason, and it makes it impossible to play. I am thinking of upgrading to the Netgear N750 router. Is this a good idea? Will it improve my connection? Should I buy a better modem instead of a new router?

Thanks

Couple of questions

How fast is your internet connection?

What are you connecting to the internet?

What kind of WiFi is in the devices a/b/g/n ??  model numbers of the wifi card will help

do you share files on your home network?

It seems over the years these home routers have gotten cheaper and cheaper.  I use to like linksys until Cisco bought them and started making them cheaper.  Really what is best is to go to newegg and read the reviews.  Or check out the DD-WRT forums to see what is current recommend router.

I am almost to the point I think I would recommend the Apple Airport to people for a home wireless router.  Now depending on your needs you could always setup a PFSense box and buy a used Cisco AP.  This would get you a rock solid network.  It really depends on what you have and what you need.  Also, how much you like to mess with setting stuff up.

Sorry for asking in this thread, but why a pfsense router AND an acces point?

The acces point for wifi and pfsense box for other router utillities?

I am guessing the WiFi isn't that great in the PFSense box.  I'd let it just be a router/firewall and hand off the WiFi to a real AP.  You can buy a WiFi card for the PFsense box if you want.

Ah oke thanks
