Rosewill Server Case Fans

Hey guys.

I was going to go into a whole post about my use case and description of everything, but instead I am just going to keep is simple.

I have the Rosewill RSV-4500L server chassis. It needs better fans. It has a total of six 120mm and two 80mm fans. The three at the front of the case are 120mm and have to push air through 10 (densely packed) hard drives. The three in the middle of the case are also 120mm and have no restriction. The two 80mm fans are at the rear, but I am not concerned with these.

My overall goal is to over-pressurize the case. I want air to be blowing out all the vent holes at the rear of the case. I also want it to be relatively quiet and I do not want to spend a whack-ton of money.

Options?

So, I know I said I didn't want to spend money, but would these work for what I need? Has anyone used them?

Would using three of those at the front of the case be enough to pressurize the case and move the warm air out?

Airflow, Noise, Cost
Pick Two

But seriously, having all three at the same time really isn't going to be easy.

Having said that, and they may not be "server" specific fans, but EK Vardar, Fractal Design Venturi, and Phanteks PH-F120(M,S, or X)P fans have a decent balance between the three. The Corsair ML120 series also has good specs on paper, but are crazy expensive.

EDIT: I should mention the Cryorig QF120 as well.

I've used these Noctua, they are very powerful but they are super loud needless to say I was very disappointed even the 2000 RPM model with a speed reducer is loud. Go with some yate loons they sell a 2200ish RPM model for like 6$ USD they will do the job for what you are looking for without being overly loud. Conversely as you have a restricted intake and are looking for pressure consider Sliverstone fans

these little badasses are some of the best on the market for pressure and they are cheap.
Bottom line poo brown = bad value for money

Thanks, guys.

I forgot to mention, but in addition to the hard drive restriction there is also a filter in front of the fans.

I remember that I have two Scythe Gentle Typhoon fans somewhere. They have yellow on the sticker, and I can't find them online anywhere. I remember they are pretty loud, though. And I don't know if they have any pressure. I also have no idea where they are at the moment. I would ask if these would work good, but they are crazy expensive now.

Here's a picture of what the stock fans look like, as well as some fans I tried:

The fan on the right is the stock fan. There are six of these in the case. The fan on the left is a real "server grade" fan. I put three of them in the front. They were horrible. Very loud, but no pressure at all. Couldn't push air through the hard drives.

I am trying to decide between the Phanteks fans @anon59440203 suggested and the Yate Loons @Tinman suggested. I think I am leaning towards the Yate Loons. I can get them pretty cheap from China.

So, in the end I bought some Corsair SP120 fans. They aren't working very well. They are supposed to be high static pressure, but they don't seem to move much air.

I was going to get some Yate Loons, but then I found this: http://www.overclock.net/t/819736/yate-loon-d12sh-12-round-up-review-56k-no Apparently there are variations within the same model, with wildly different performance between them. And it is very difficult if not impossible to know which one you are getting. At least on ebay. I was looking at this specific item: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141736309521

At this point I don't really care if it's loud. The system runs warm, and I want to cool it down.

EK Vardar are out because of price.
Some Noctua model is second to last, also because of price. I could swing it if I had to, but they'd have to be damn good.
Corsair ML120 and Phanteks PH-F120 are tied for looking like my best bet at this point. Maybe Yate Loon if I can get over the chance of getting a poor version.

I can get four Corsair ML120 fans for about 16.50 each, while the Phanteks are about 15 each. Yate Loon are about 6 each.

Not sure what I should do.

If you want the absolute maximum airflow you could go for some Deltas. They'll sound like a jetliner taking off though.

Anyways, I don't think the Phanteks you listed will have enough air flow for your needs if the Corsair SP120s don't. I've never used the Corsair ML120, but the specs look decent. Another option may be the Cryorig QF120 Performance. It performs fairly similar to the Vardar F4, but it's cheaper.

Those delta's will surely cool down your server, it will be loud bu it is totally worth it. Just put the server in a closet somewhere :)

Beware of the amperage though. The motherboard header might not be enough.

Thanks guys.

For some reason the picture in my post from a few months ago isn't showing up. Here's a picture of the fan I originally tried, but for some reason it couldn't pull air through the filter and push through the hard drives:

I'm guessing the blades just aren't designed for that much restriction:

I also have three of these:

The fan design is very similar to the Mechatronics fans, but there is a slight difference: the ends of the blades seem closer to the fan frame.

The Cryorig fans look promising. $13 each is a pretty attractive price, too.

I am going to try the San Ace fans, as I have not tried them yet. I'll also try the Mechatronics fans once more. If they don't work I will probably get some of those Cryorig fans.

Oh, and don't worry about power draw, all the fans in the system (except for the CPU fans) are hooked directly to the power supply.

Sanyo Denki fans are generally well regarded. Didn't realize ones made in Japan were still around (kinda jealous).

As for Cryorig, I have two QF140s in my NZXT S340 going through a radiator and they seem to push plenty enough air. Granted the radiator is just hooked up to a Xeon, but it still keeps it plenty cool in a small case with a 980 Ti in there. I'm going to assume the QF120 Performance fans will also perform well.

I put the San Ace fans in the front three positions and tried it out. It definitely moves more air than any of the fans I have tried so far. So that's good.

While the system was off I decided to put the three Mechatronics fans in the center positions. I have now achieved my goal of pressurizing the case. Air is definitely blowing out all the vents in the back.

Only thing now is the noise. Holy shit is it loud. Oh well. It's in an unused room with the door closed, so it shouldn't be a problem. When I move next it will be going back into the rack where it belongs. Hopefully I can find a good home for the rack wherever I move to.

Yeah, industrial fans will be pretty loud. They'll move a lot of air though.

Glad the OG Sanyo Denki fans worked and you didn't have to splurge on fans.
