ROMED8-2T no post with code 00

Hi. The motherboard has an Epyc 7251 CPU and four Samsung M393A4K40CB2-CVF DDR4-2933mhz modules. At power on, I see post code 00. The code never changes and there is no display. The CPU is brand one. The CPU fan is running.

BTW, the motherboard is tested on a cardboard box (not inside a case). There is no connected devices beside the keyboard and analog VGA monitor. There is no add-on controller. It’s a very minimal configuration.

I can log into the IPMI interface to retrieve the FRU data such as the motherboard BIOS version (P 3.50) and board revision (1.03)

Does any have an idea what could be the problem? I tried two different power supplies including Seasonic TR-750. Could this is a defective motherboard?

Thanks!

Jeff

I think support for Epyc 7001 cpu’s has been dropped in newer bios versions for support of 7002/7003 cpu’s.
You might need to go to an earlier bios according to support page

Thanks! You are right because Asrock tech support just told me the same thing. I wish they state this fact explicitly on the CPU supported page. :frowning:

At https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=ROMED8-2T#Download you can find which versions you need:

Version 3.20 :

Support EPYC7002 and EPYC7003 series CPUs (EPYC7001 is not supported)

So you’d need one before that.

I understand it is because the AGESA firmware is too large to support all EPYC generations on the Flash chip normally used, so you either get Naples+Rome, or Rome+Milan, not all three.
