"Restoring" an old system (AMD Slot A Athlon)

Well it has sat in a box for a year. And yesterday after building a new system I happened to glance over at the box and think…“Man I want to work on that again.” So now I’m on a hunt for a more recent PSU that could work. I realize these old systems rely on the +5V rail so I’m curious at what a good rule of thumb is on the current for that rail.

According to these sites:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20950%20-%20AMD-K7950MNR53B%20A.html
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20950%20-%20AMD-A0950MMR24B%20A.html

These CPUs max out at 52W - 62W (assuming I’m reading this stuff correctly).

This guy:

has 30A on the +5V rail. Does this seem reasonable?

Hi Weekendgameguy. I am building a very similar system. Athlon 850 Thunderbird, Shuttle AI61V12A, 384 MEG RAM, SB Live PCI, Radeon 7500. Using an old SATA SSD 128 GIG with a SATA to IDE interface. I have a USB 2.0 / FIrewire PCI card. Do you have the Shuttle chipset drivers? I have not been able to locate them. I did find some other manufacturers drivers with the same chipset that worked but misplaced them. Would like to get the real deal. This has been fun so far. Back around the turn of the century I had a similar machine. I only had the 600MHZ process back then but it was great improvement over my K6-2.

I haven’t even started looking for drivers yet. Once I get to that step if and when I find the drivers I’ll be sure to pass the info on to you.
