Repurposing old Corsair One

Old Gaming PC that I used since 2017, then passed down to my wife in 2020, now has just been chilling in my closet after she upgraded to the next version (she really likes the SFF and how she can leave it on 24/7 since its so quiet).

So now, I want to see what I can do with it!

The only thing I can think of is maybe a Plex Server? Find out how to throw linux on this thing?

I don’t think I am brave enough to try to upgrade it with AIO liquid cooling haha!

-Intel Core i7-7700K (liquid cooled)
-16GB DDR4 2,400MHz (8GBx2)
-Nvidia GTX 1080 8GB (liquid cooled)
-960GB SATA SSD
-400W SFX

Could make a nice cctv server if you have space for external hdd enclosure.
Or a nice docker host, sharing that gpu nicely

Just finished up installing Plex Server on the windows OS, and it looks to be performing well!

I hear the fans kick on VERY slightly when transcoding and importing libraries for the first time, otherwise whisper quiet

I guess i could have tried doing all this under WSL but I was worried about the GPU being available for hardware acceleration

Don’t worry about that, it isn’t that hard… This is the perfect moment to start experimenting with that.

why not try proxmox now

most of the time your windows licence is bound to that hardware so you can always reinstall windows if you want to

You can send it my way and I can make sure it is rightfully repurposed

i was thinking to say proxmox, but since it have a gpu i though docker would be better …
That way it can be shared

@vlycop I was exploring that option but after some google-ing there were several people who put linux on this unit that saw it overheat under load.

the specific reason was that there is a CORSAIRONE specific utility that is only windows which controls the fan and works with the AIO liquid cooling. It was a bummer to learn that!

I guess I COULD just set the fans to max in some way and leave it that way since even when the fans are max you cannot hear the unit… future possibilities

edit: or some WSL goodness!
