I am a fan of Kevin Smith. For those who don't know, he's the guy who wrote and directed Clerks 1 & 2, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. He is Silent Bob. You know, the fat one that thinks he's a Jed-ah hell, you know who he is. Some may feel his comedy can get pretty repugnant and low-brow, and I would agree sometimes it gets tiresome but he usually gets a laugh out of me. And what I really like about his work is that the man knows how to write dialog.
But his newest film, Red State, is a film about "religious fundamentalism gone awry". Think Westboro Baptist Church meets the Branch Davidian's. Imagine that, a Kevin Smith film without dick and fart jokes? Red State is a horror film, a big departure from Smith's previous films. It seems to be shot in the same style as something like The Devils Rejects or a few of the newer horror films. While it may not win originality points visually, I look forward to the films writing, since Smith is always best when he's serious.
A trailer has finally been released. The film will star Michael Parks and John Goodman, a couple of my favorite actors. Check it out, and tell me what you think.
