I'm not a huge console gamer but I heard this while listening to a podcast, This guy said he enjoyed playing console games knowing everyone had the same hardware knowing that another person he could potentially be playing against would have some unfair advantage. For example on pc you could have some pile of bricks and your opponnet could spend 10k on their computer
Partialy true, though exclusive titles are probably a stronger reason. There are things out there like modded controllers which, once you learn how to use, can benefit you more than your average player useing the normal controller.
Exclusives, that's it.
Btw, your reason is kinda weak, considering most professional gamers play FPS and the like on the lowest graphical setting, it's easier to make out other players that way.
I don't know what competetive game that needs $10k to maximize in order to play for an advantage, most $1,500 rigs can maximize BF3 (lets just say). Having extra monitors certainly won't help, a good soundcard and speakers would but that's more for CoD and PC gamers tend to keep away from that I would imagine. Consoles on the other hand have modded controllers, MK/B peripherals now which is making a huge problem apparently with the console gamers because they're being slaughtered. And of course the infamous but more folklore than anything else is the lag switches. Apparently anyone with a bad connection has one.
I have consoles for two reasons, they make decent DVD players, especially PS3. Xbox makes a good bootlegged movie streamer and a few exclusives here and there but those are becoming few and far between. To each his own! I have fun gaming on PC, I don't bash people who play on consoles even though they would consider me an elitist on a message board :P

Most pro Counter-Strike 1.6 players play on the lowest settings on a resolution 600x800 or something stupid like that. A toaster could play that at a solid 25-30 frames.
Right now the Way of the Samurai series, Metal Gear, and a few other exclusives here and there are the only thing making me keep my PS3. I boxed up my Xbox(Pun intended ;D) almost a year ago since it's exclsusives went to poop.
I use my PS3 as a HTPC, I just stream all my content from my PC to it
Hackers run rampant on pc. Add that as another reason to play consoles.
Why I Play consoles? I like playing consoles that is all
I only play consoles for exclusives, more specifically for the PS3. Games like Demon's Souls and former console exclusive Dark Souls. Those games are absolutely amazing and totally appeal to the PC gamer due to its hardcore nature. Otherwise, my PC is for everything else.
Hackers run rampant? What platform have you been playing? The only games I've really seen problems with hackers are F2P games with Punkbuster and Call of Duty games. I'll usually run into a hacker once every 1-2 months. Though to call them hackers is kind of insult to actual hackers, they're script kiddies, not hackers.
Exclusives and Native splitscreen.
No offense, but that is stupid logic.
As a competitive fighting game player (specifically SSF4) consoles are essential. They're cheapest for major tournament organisations and are a constant in hardware and settings. Not to mention the most gamers have a modern console like 360 or PS3 for small local tournaments. A basic Xbox bundle costs like £100 and maybe £10 for the game itself. It's not so simple for PCs where the game itself isn't optimised and it would cost much more for a PC that could run SSF4 at highest graphics on 60 fps without stutters.
With that said, even within consoles there's a lack of consistency. Xbox 360 has a 1 frame button delay whereas PS3 has a 2-3 frame delay, arcade machines generally have 2-3 frames also. This is where PC is superior as in SSF4's example, there is no button delay (except for the monitor delay), however the previous points far outweigh.
Also, in response to the "Oh, well we're all equal in MP" thing.
Answer: No. People have drastically different TV sizes, quality, speakers, etc. Someone with a 20 inch SD TV will be outmatched by someone with a 62 inch HDTV, most likely.
yeah i think splitscreen is a big reason to play console, because i almost always have friends over
Not really... If he's happy where he is, you can't tell him he's not happy.
I stopped playing consoles primarily because most of my friends moved to PC gaming.
I still have an xbox but my roommate uses it more than I do now, primarily for street fighter.
In ten months that BF3 has been out I've come accross two hackers total, none in Max Payne 3, never seen one in counter strike before or Left 4 Dead...those are popular games on PC. You can easily cheat on a console, especially when they added USB functionality. Now that DayZ is probably the most popular game on PC and I've yet to come accross a hacker it's becoming few and far between. Games like Crysis 2 and CoD have it worst, why? Because they're console ports and they pretty much suck, people don't take those games seriously.
well i spent most of my life playing consoles....and i finally got bored of them..dont get me wrong i had a great time with them..im just more mature now becouse i wasnt being stimulated by consoles anymore like it always leaves me thinking..."graphics could be better" like it was something missing..but anyway i need somthing that will make me feel like im IN THE GAME! and im sorry to say consoles just dont have the hardware nor do they have the power to do so. having said that..i still do like my fighting games only thing that the console can do better than the pc ..cant wait for doa5
yeah so true..cant wait for counterstirke GO
