Reapplying thermal paste on a quadsocket Xeon 8268 system

I am running a quadsocket Xeon 8268 QCT Q72D-2U system for ca. 3.5 years. Cooling was a challenge from right at the start and throttling occured occasionally (mostly on the rear 2 CPUs further away from the blower).

Lately it seems, that throttling has significantly increased and the fans are really going up close to full (airplane turbine) speed & noise.

My question is: Would it make sense to reapply thermal paste? If so, which one? Artic MX 4, 5 or 6?

If dried thermal paste is your issue, any fresh paste will work about as well. Just don’t buy anything conductive.

And dont apply too thick a coat as it can hold in heat.
