R9 270X TOXIC vs GTX 780 FE (shitty) Benchmarks

So, I got GTX 780 Founders Edition from @mutation666 and ofc I had to bench it against my 270X TOXIC.

The benchmarks are not done super properly, I don’t have time or patience to rerun them 5-8 times. I just wanted to see the general difference in performance.

Setup

Hardware

  • Intel® Xeon® CPU E31240
  • 24GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333MHz
  • 1920x1080 screen

Anyways, enough words, give me the shinny charts!

Charts

And all of those averaged and combined:

I decided to compare the difference between Linux and Windows performance too. But since I didn’t/couldn’t bench all titles on both OSes I only included Unigine benches here.

Now some notes

  • CS:GO min and max FPS are eyeballed, coz bench only showed average, and no similar software to FRAPS on Linux;
  • All Doom (2016) FPS are eyeballed coz I couldn’t find anything like FRAPS for Linux. To add to that I am comparing Vulkan on 270X vs OpenGL on 780 coz Vulkan on 780 has a bug, when using any AA, all textures are simply black;
  • DiRT 3 benchmark didn’t provide max FPS, so I just omitted it.

Thoughts

I am very surprised what my 270X is capable of, apparently I didn’t push it far enough. That said, clearly 780 is a better GPU overall. That +1GB of VRAM is making some difference. (Plus that memory bandwidth)

And we’re live! @mutation666 @psycho_666

Oh wow, it’s like Pete was right all along to tell you it’s not that bad :smiley:

Other than that - yeah, 780 should wipe the floor with 270X. But I’m surprised as well… I thought the difference would be larger than that.

I still dont see bench settings for unigine. I’m assuming everything max.

if you download the zip, they have data if the benchmarks provided any. Unigine did.

But in general I maxxed out everything in all cases.

im just gonna do extreme then.

you can see the settings in the table on the pic.

  • Ultra Quality
  • Extreme Tesselation

This brings back memories, Found my old folder of benchmarks.

The 780 that scored this has since died but boy did it pull it’s weight.

What 780 was that? And what’s happening with that GPU model. It detected that you had both plugged it? It used 780 tho, right?

I had a 280X for mining (This was the 2013 crypto boom) but it was running on a EVGA GTX 780 Classified overclocked beyond what’s reasonable.

I had a custom bios on the card to push higher voltage. roughly 20% higher than what the stock bios allowed.
What also helped was the 4770k overclocked to 5GHz.

Not bad at all

I had another go because my first run was while streaming using NVENC and with a bunch of other shit running

Its odd it says my vram is 4096 and not the actual 8192 it should be
