Questions about GPU

Other than just having smooth graphics and more filters running through, I will like to know more about the GPU. For example, if I have 2 GPUs [ASUS HD7970 DirectCU II & Quadro 4000], does that mean I have more power when I overclock it? Also with the two example graphics card, while I use my ASUS card to play games, using a monitor, can I as I render videoes an with the Quadro 4000 without one?

I will like to know more how GPU works.

Thanks and arrivederci.

The HD7970 is used mostly for gaming, although, many people use it for rendering as-well and its a great card.

The Quadro 4000 is a video editing/rendering card, you can play games with it, but it is not optimized for it.

Both AMD and Nvidia divide their cards accordingly, so if its called firepro, quadro or tesla, it usually has something what it is really good at, it can do other things as-well, but they usually are optimized for computing or rendering.

Also, you cannot use sli or crossfire if you have those cards, at least not that i know of.

Now as for rendering, some software, like AVID up from version 4.0 needs a quadro series card, well it does not really need it, you have to hack and crack the software, then you can run it without one, but adobe products are not as picky about the hardware. So it should work fine, depending on what software you are using, they probably have requirements listed somewhere.

*so you can render with our HD7970, it might not be as fast as the quadro series card, but it gets the job done.

Now overclocking part, yes, you will have more power, depending on what cooling you are using, you can push the 7970, not really sure how far, so somebody else can answer it.

Hope this helps you a bit. If you want details on how the cards differentiate from one another, check out the manufacturers site.

you seem to know your stuff, can you also help me out? i posted on the forum as well
