QNAP TL-D800C questions

Hi,

I’m thinking about buying a TL-D800C(USB) to plug it to a PC running Windows 10, and after reading a lot of forums and watching many YouTube videos, I’ve still got some questions about this QNAP DAS model:

  1. If I plug it to a Windows 10 PC, does it appear in the safe removal tray icon?
  2. If so, will I be able to safely remove (pressing the trayicon) each of the 8 drives individually?
  3. Can I access the SMART data for each drive with 3rd party tools like Crystal DiskInfo?
  4. If a drive is not used for a while, will it go to sleep individually?
  5. If so, how long does a drive have to be without any activity to spin itself down and hibernate?
  6. Do all drives turn on at the same time when the DAS unit boots up?
  7. If not, which order do they follow?

Does any one in this forum have this QNAP DAS model and can shed some light, please?

Yes.

In JBOD mode should be exposing each drive so you’ll be seeing 8 removable drives unless you set up some kind of redundant storage through Windows or a toggle on the device.

Yes.

Depends on your Windows power saving settings. There’s spin down time you decide. Can’t recall the Windows default at the moment.

Depends on the OS logic I think. The DAS should allow for all 8 of them to spin up at once but if you want a staggered spin up you need to cconfigure your system for it.

I don’t, I’m going by general knowledge of DAS appliances.
