Been scratching my head at why the master-daily PPA from VLC wasn’t doing anything on 18.04 to find they removed the bionic packages completely. There are no backports anymore for VLC Nightly.
If you’re having trouble getting VLC Nightly on Bionic Beaver (Ubuntu 18.04), this is why. Nobody has a replacement backport PPA yet.
How hard would it be to make one?
You would need a build bot that is based off of 18.04 and build master from scratch daily. Steam’s Proton uses Vagrant, so it would need to be a Ubuntu Server 18.04 VM building from master daily.
This is to solve the AV1 issue that the default Bionic repo has failed to provide AV1 decoders with their build.
Is that to have the cake and eat it?
As in 18.04 is the slower, LTS version, and daily is the fresh, new tech vlc?
Would one have to stay with stable vlc on stable distro/switch to periodical for new features?
