Key Takeaway: Set your BIOS to PCIe 4.0 for the PCIe slot before installing the B50 GPU. It may boot with PCIe 5.0 but won’t be seen reliably by the operating system. If it is seen by the OS with PCIe 5.0 configured, it will likely produce corrupt transcode output.
Hardware setup: Minisforum MS-01 96GB RAM 4TB SSD Intel Arc Pro B50 with n3rdware cooler Operates normally with A310 using "optimized” default BIOS settings.
Software setup: PMS Version 1.43.1.10540 w/ Lifetime Plex Pass (hw transcoding enabled)
Proxmox VE 9.1.6 (community subscription)
PMS is running in a unprivileged LXC and I’m passing through the /dev/dri directory. i915-sriov-dkms/2026.03.05 (only for sr-iov on the iGPU), 6.17.13-2-pve
I can reliably transcode 8 to 20 4k streams depending on bitrate.
nvtop shows ~50% memory utilization with 11-12 4k streams
Unfortunately, when you fill the temp storage, all the streams die; don’t use /tmp. It would be nice if there were some overload settings in Plex for the transcode_temp directory, fail to another device when at % capacity. You can already supply multiple library sources, why not transcode storage devices? I was also thinking about iGPU/2nd dGPU overload. I haven’t investigated Jellyfin in regard to these features. It also doesn’t make clear which hardware transcode device is in use.
I was able to configure the udev rules using the i915 example to only reveal the PF and one VF to the OS, still need to clean that up to hide the PF. This way I only have the the first VF for each device shown in the Plex transcode configuration.
It’s amazing that I can have this setup run multiple 4k transcodes via Plex, multiple VMs and all of them have access to accelerated video. The experience with this card makes me desire a Flex 140 model, have to figure out a fan solution for the MS-01 though.
I tried gaming demos in a Windows 11 VM, although the only 3d game I play is Scrap Mechanic. Tested Quake RTX as well. My recommendation is to disable secondary monitors before gaming over RDP, the mouse cursor going out of bounds is annoying.
I think my issue might be related to the SSD configuration—possibly using too many slots. Would you mind sharing some details about your setup layout? Which slots are in use, etc.?
I’m currently on BIOS version 1.27, running 2 SSDs and 96GB of RAM.
Same configuration, a wd black 4tb in the 4.0x4 slot and a wd red 2tb in the 3.0x4 slot for transcode cache. I use an old QNAP nas (3rd gen Intel) with some JBOD shelves as media storage.
