This is wild, amongst the sea of AI slop code - there’s also this:
Reverse-engineered photoshop clone built in Rust.
You can get it here:
As far as I can tell works great, although I’m no Photoshot expert. Running it on Ubuntu 26.04, tried both the AppImage and .deb file. Wayland not yet supported so some gaps but to me this is a signal that no software product company really has a moat - if what you built is really popular or useful, but your monetization scheme is loathed by so many - someone’s going to donate the tokens required to do this.
Curious on thoughts about this, and also what software you’d want to see vibe-cloned into open source.
And Altium so we can have a Linux version I told the sales lady to never call me again unless they have ported it to Linux. Why are they so damn adverse to it?
lmao I just mentioned this in another thread a few hours ago
I have not tried any of them yet, but maybe I’ll bother a few months later, after they’re actually battle-tested, and if they’re still alive/maintained (since it definitely seems to be going viral). Oh and I guess I need the Wayland support anyway in the first place - I’m a little surprised that’s not already first-class despite being vibe coded in Rust…
I was wondering about the lack of Wayland support myself. I chalked it up to developing three different platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux). This is going to be one to watch.
I’d have begrudgingly given Adobe money if they’d have released a Linux version of Lightroom Classic, but that ship appears to have sailed….
