As a young software dev, this was absolutely invaluable. I can’t wait for his new book and lots of other good reading materials referenced here.

Thanks Wendell! Fantastic conversation.

Blender also does python and then C like he described

Ugh. Why are we giving this horrible man any publicity?

Can’t think of a reason to not give airtime

I don’t care what his religious/political beliefs are, I just wanted to hear what he had to say.

All I’ve read is the entry on wikipedia and I’m not sure what constitutes “horrible” here.

I also chuckled at the thought that being on L1T Linux channel counts as “publicity”

Wendell, anytime you have the opportunity to speak with and engage ERS and share that with us is a truly amazing learning experience. Thank you so much for all that you do.

As a Formula1 fanatic, reading

engage ERS

made me smile.

Did you mean ESR? (Eric S Raymond vs Eric Raymond S) I’d like to think that ERS is the “sport” model of the Eric Raymond standard model.

But everybody loves Eric Raymond…

Lol. I went through his GitHub and GitLab that last couple of days. He is making some impressive changes, for a dude in his sixties :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

He’s become a huge fan of Golang, I noticed. Even touched up their documentation.

Great interview @wendell I came into the community when the Level1Techs brand was well established, but I caught up on the videos. I love the one building ESR’s rig and the write up about it on his website. Been waiting for this for some time, too

Bit late to this but i appreciated the interview. Such an interesting guy.

I liked the “combine programming languages” and “global variables are bad” digression.

Some of the books mentioned will arrive in the next few days.

He mentioned Rust, which has the “living document” version of their book: The Rust Programming Language, for free on the website.

The hard copy is like $50, well worth it if you like print (as is anything from No Starch Press). But if you’re strapped for cash or just like ebooks, it’s nice that they offer this.
